12/30/2017 Update:
Virgil was ADOPTED!!!! It is with great pleasure we are able to announce Virgil has found his forever home.
Virgil joined the No Borders Bulldog Rescue family as an owner surrender. His owner had recently became ill and had to move back to the East Coast to receive treatment. It wasn’t possible for Virgil to make the trip, so they decided to ask NBBR to help Virgil find a new forever home. When Virgil initially arrived in Rescue he had SEVERE anxiety. His anxiety was so severe that on his first trip to the clinic, he had a panic attack which almost cost him his life. Luckily for Virgil he received the care he needed at the clinic and didn’t have any lasting effects. It was very apparent Virgil needed a patient family that could work with Virgil’s anxiety and help him learn how to relax.
Virgil’s forever family and foster family are one in the same. The family had completed the approval process to be an adoptive family. At the time there wasn’t a Bulldog that was the right match. The family had a small son the Bulldog would need to not only get along with, but enjoy the energy and excitement that a little boy can provide. So… they decided to enroll in our Foster to Adopt program and help other Bulldogs until “the one” was available. Their first foster was not a fit for them. But they did not let that deter them. Their second foster was Virgil. When Virgil initially arrived he was a “wild man”, he was so wild he needed some medicine to help him relax. As he spent more time with his family he began to calm down. The funny thing is, Virgil’s human brother doesn’t make him anxious or nervous at all. While Virgil does still tend to get very excited when new people come to visit him, it usually takes about 15 minutes for him to calm down and enjoy the company. Virgil and his forever family are a match made in heaven. He is now an integral part of a loving family. Congratulations to the entire family.
6/28/2017 Update: Please welcome Virgil to the No Borders Bulldog Rescue family. Virgil is a 3 year old male English Bulldog that weighs 65 lbs.
Virgil joined Rescue as an owner surrender. Due to changes in his previous owner’s life situation and health, she made the difficult decision to allow Virgil to find a new forever home. His previous owner was recently diagnosed with Cancer and, due to her treatment, she will be moving back to the East Coast to be closer to her family and to get extra support.
While Virgil was at the clinic getting his checkup and vaccinations, he experienced a severe panic attack. It was determined it would be best for Virgil if he stayed at the clinic to be monitored further. While there, Virgil ended up having another panic attack and it was decided to try some natural supplements to help him with his anxiety. Virgil is responding well to the supplements and has relaxed quite a bit. He joined his foster family where he has settled in nicely. We will continue to monitor Virgil to see if he will need the supplements permanently or if this was just an issue with his changing surroundings. Other than the anxiety, Virgil is a healthy and happy guy.
Virgil is a very loving guy that gets along with other dogs and kids. Due to his anxiety, he prefers to spend his time relaxing in the house. He quickly dashes out to do his business and then it is back to the house for Mr. Virgil. Currently Virgil is continuing to settle in at his foster home. Stay tuned for additional information as we learn more about this guy.
