4/16/2018 Update:
Roxanne was ADOPTED!!!! We are so happy to announce Roxanne has hit the jackpot and found her forever family.
Roxanne joined the NBBR family as an owner surrender via way of a shelter. Roxanne’s (Roxy) story isn’t a simple one. She belonged to a family that used her as a money making machine producing puppy after puppy. Her service was not rewarded with good care…Roxanne’s reward was being kept outside in the harsh Texas weather. There was a short time where the owner’s mother stepped in and took Roxanne. Roxanne was taken to a vet for the first time in several years to address her health, not to have more babies. After a short time Roxanne’s previous owner asked to have her back and promised she would continue to take care of her in the proper way. Well, after a very short time it was apparent the promise was not being kept and Roxanne’s guardian angel convinced Roxy’s owner to surrender her so she could find a family that would love her and treat her like the princess she deserves to be. That guardian angel soon discovered owning a Bulldog on a fixed income was too much for her and Roxanne was surrendered to a shelter in a small town in South Texas. Luckily the shelter is a no kill shelter that works with rescue. The day Roxanne arrived in the shelter a shelter volunteer, who is a Bulldog owner herself, saw Roxanne and knew she couldn’t let her stay at the shelter.
Roxanne’s forever family is no stranger to the No Borders Bulldog Rescue family. Roxanne’s fur sibling (Gracie) is a NBBR success story as well. When the family adopted Gracie they also had another older Bulldog. After several months together their elderly Bulldog passed away and left Gracie as an only child. While still grieving, they were not sure if they were ready for a permenant addition to the family. So, they decided they would become a foster family until they felt comfortable to adopt. When Roxanne initially joined the family she was very timid and scared of her foster sister. After several weeks of staying by herself, one morning Roxy woke up and was a completely different Bulldog. She wanted to play, she wanted to rough house with Gracie, she had figured out how to be happy and how to trust humans again. Roxy and Gracie became best friends. So it was decided the two foster sisters would become sisters, oh and yeah Mom and Dad were happy too. We are so happy to be able to relay this happy ending, not only for Roxy but for Gracie, Mom and Dad. Congratulations to the entire group.

The day Roxanne arrived in the shelter a shelter volunteer, who is a Bulldog owner herself, saw Roxanne and knew she couldn’t let her stay at the shelter. Roxy was able to go to the volunteer’s home where it was warm and filled with love. Once safe in her home, the volunteer began searching for a breed specific rescue that could help Roxanne find her forever home.
When our volunteer met the family to pick up Roxanne, he was pleasantly surprised she was in as good of shape as she was. It appears Roxanne has an eye infection and some possible allergy related skin issues, but as Rescue Bulldogs go, she is better than most. We were also pleasantly surprised when Roxanne went to the clinic. When the family surrendered her, they also provided her sporadic vet records. In those vet records, it appeared she was at some point Heartworm Positive. It was very confusing because the complete record wasn’t there. So when Roxanne went to the clinic we assumed the worst (that she would be Heartworm Positive), but that WASN”T the case. Roxanne tested negative for Heartworm which was a very happy piece of news. Roxanne is scheduled to stay at the clinic today where she will be spayed, have her vaccines brought up to date and microchipped. Once all that is complete, she will join her foster family for her first holiday season as an inside dog.
Roxanne is a very sweet girl. It appears she may have been physically abused in the past. She is very timid and will cower if there is a sudden movement around her. However, given a little time she warms up quickly. When her journey started with our volunteer, she was quietly sitting in the seat keeping to herself. When he started to pet her she was in Bulldog heaven. When he stopped, she would gently nudge his hand with her head or tap his hand with her paw as if to say ” I’m not going to pet myself”. Roxanne is a quiet, gentle girl that needs a loving, patient forever family. Please keep Roxanne in your thoughts and prayers as she begins her search for a forever family that will shower her with all the love and attention that she deserves.
