1/27/2019 Update:
Roosevelt was ADOPTED!!! It is with great pleasure we are able to announce that Roosevelt has found his forever family.
Roosevelt joined NBBR as an owner surrender by way of a veterinarian office. Roosevelt was purchased by a local family and was diagnosed with pneumonia. The family could not afford the treatments so they surrendered him to the office staff. The veterinary staff took great care of Roosevelt and treated his pneumonia. Their original intention was to be able to find him a family locally. After 3 months of looking, they were not having much luck, so they called NBBR and asked if we could help. In true NBBR fashion, Roosevelt was several hours away and needed transport assistance. Once again, our volunteers sprung into action and Roosevelt made his way to DFW to meet his new foster family.
The first thing to discuss with Roosevelt is his name. No, it was not originally Roosevelt. What happened was…..when the paperwork was completed his original name was Biscuit. However, when our volunteer picked him up at the clinic they mentioned that he didn’t have a name (not sure how that happened). So while our volunteers were driving him towards DFW and getting to know him they started thinking of a name. When they stopped to meet the next leg of the transport they mentioned he didn’t have a name. They started talking about how NBBR tries to name our dogs with names from history such as presidents, famous characters both real and fiction, etc. While they were having this conversation, they looked over to their right and there was another Bulldog. Like all Bulldog people, they immediately went to meet the other Bulldog. After talking they found out that his name was Roosevelt. Both volunteers thought that it was a sign. So, after asking permission Biscuit officially became Roosevelt, after the buddy he met on his freedom ride. Once arriving in the DFW area, Roosevelt made a quick stop to the clinic for an evaluation. All in all, things were good. Roosevelt did need to be neutered. He was cryptorchid on one side, meaning that one of his testicles was not descended. Roosevelt also had a less than ideal nares (nostrils), making his breathing more difficult than it should. He also needed to be vaccinated. This was not done previously because he was so sick. All of these things were addressed and Roosevelt joined his foster family.
Roosevelt’s forever family had previous Bulldog experience but they had never rescued a Bulldog. So, when they applied they had several questions and wanted to make sure that they found the right pup for them. After the approval process was complete, the list was narrowed to 3 potential Bulldogs. Roosevelt was one of the three. After careful review it appeared that Roosevelt might be the best fit. A Meet and Greet was set up to see if Roosevelt and the family’s current pet would be a good fit. The Meet and Greet went without a hitch. Roosevelt appeared to be that pesky little brother and immediately wanted to play. His new forever fur sister, while having had a Bulldog brother previously, didn’t quite know what to do with Roosevelt. She quickly warmed up and the rest as they say was history. Roosevelt hit the jackpot, he not only found a new canine sister, but a human sister and a Mom and Dad. Roosevelt had been with his foster Mom for several months and he was really attached, so we were worried that he might be sad on his adoption day. There was no sadness, it was apparent that Roosevelt was comfortable with his new family and he was “home”. He didn’t even look back as he jumped in the car and headed off to his new life. Congratulation to Roosevelt and the whole family.

1/14/2019 Update: Howdy from Roosevelt! Roosevelt had a busy week shopping for new chew toys and visiting his friends at Hollywood Feed. He loves going anywhere he will get attention. For anyone that pets him, he will sit on their feet so they have to stay and keep petting. He gained a few pounds so he is on the green bean diet. He doesn’t mind at all. He never met a snack he didn’t like.

12/24/2018 Update:
12/3/2018 Update: Roosevelt is so happy to be back in his foster home after an extended stay at the clinic with pneumonia. He is back to his old self pulling out every toy in the box then taking a nap in the middle of them. He is being a big boy and learning to eat from an elevated bowl. He is hoping to find a new family for Christmas.
11/5/2018 Update: Roosevelt is doing great and still searching for his perfect home. We are working on improving his puppy habits like chewing the right things and doing your business outside. He is super playful and loves toys and other dogs to play with. He is full of energy but can relax also. This week he learned how to get up on the couch with the other big dogs. He was very proud of himself.
10/29/2018 Update: Roosevelt was boarding at the vet last week while foster mom was on vacation. Today he is making up for lost time by pulling every toy out of the box. He loves toys and all people. Car rides make him a little nervous because he has moved around a fee times during his young life. He is submitting his picture for tongue out Tuesday.
10/15/2018 Update: Roosevelt is doing great. He loves playing with his foster brother and playing with every toy he can find. He has healed from his neuter and is ready for a home. He would do great in a home with another dog to keep him company and help exhaust some of his puppy energy. Roosevelt is all puppy and is still working on puppy manners and house training
10/8/2018 Update: Roosevelt had an amazing time at the bulldogs and bikers event. He has never met a stranger and found a few buddies to wrestle with. He gets along great with other dogs and cats. He is a hoarder. He will gather things from all over the house and pile them in the front room. He has his bursts of puppy energy since he is only 6 months old. He is a very loving puppy that can’t wait to have his own family
