 3/2/2020 Update:

A touchy memorial from alumnae Rocky’s forever family.   Run free big guy.

Rocky lost his battle with a tumor that was pressing on his brain and growing down into his TMJ joint. When we found out, as with this type of tumor, it was already too late, as they do not show symptoms most of the time until they find them. These types of tumors grow for “YEARS” we were told and can be caused from several different things. We found out in in September and we were given “months” with Rocky. We didn’t know how long, but all we knew was just like below, we were going to continue to love him big and make sure we were there for him and he was not in any pain. We always knew that we did not want him to suffer the way he had previous to NBBR finding him, starving, with heartworms, parasites and on deaths door. When we came home that day we knew he was not going to make it. I think he waited for us to get home. As I type this, I am in tears. ROCKY CHANGED OUR LIVES FOREVER!!! I wrote this update below early on, and even up to when it was his time to cross over the rainbow bridge, I always wondered why someone just “threw him away”. We prided ourselves on giving Rocky the very best of everything, including the very best of medical care, but most of all, the very best of ourselves and our love for him. We will continue to love him, have no doubt, but we are heartbroken and devastated. We had the best 3 ½ years with Rocky and would do it all over again for just 1 more day with him.

I often wonder why Rocky was abandoned, was it the annoyingly cute way that he sucks on his toys rather than chewing on them? Is it because he ALWAYS wants to be touched and loved? Is it because he snores? Is it because he could eat them out of house and home if given the chance? Is it because he growls when he plays with you like all dogs do and they got scared of him? Is it because he lays where HE wants to lay, on the couch, and he wasn’t allowed on furniture? Is it because he doesn’t get along with the cats because he likes to eat their food and they aren’t having it? Is it because he got heartworms and they couldn’t afford the treatment? Is it because he really is a big ol baby that wants to sit in your lap all the time if given the chance? Did they not like the kisses he gives? Did they just not have the time to devote to him? What was his first name? Was he the biggest puppy in the litter? Surely he was the cutest puppy, why else would they choose him? Did they have kids and got him on a spur of the moment at Christmas and put a bow around his neck thinking it would be a good idea? Why couldn’t they see all the good qualities of him? Why couldn’t they just love him, that’s all he ever wanted?
With all these questions I just have 1 conclusion….they were just selfish, inconsiderate pet owners who had no business acquiring Rocky in the first place. Because of your selfishness, Ira and I are so very lucky to have this sweet, sweet boy as part of our family. We wouldn’t change 1 single thing about him and yet you couldn’t see all the best qualities of him, so you didn’t deserve him, but you didn’t have to put him out like yesterday’s trash…..

Rest Easy Rocky, Love Mom & Dad

10/30/2016 Update: Rocky was ADOPTED!!!  Guess what!  All my “training”  that my foster family gave me paid off!  I won the final round of my heartworm bout and my purse was a Forever Family!!   There isn’t a prize better than that. My forever mom takes me to work every single day.  The girls that work there tell me I am wonderful all the time.  I have a fluffy bed, lots of toys, and a forever home full of love, trust and never ending snacks.  I should especially thank  No Borders Bulldog Rescue for believing in me and making sure I had all of my special heartworm medicine and special food to make me healthy again-    Always fighting for love-  Rocky

9/11/2016 Update: Hi there!  I know I’ve been a little quite lately – I’m two weeks into my heart worm treatment and sometimes I feel a little under the weather  but like my namesake, I’m gonna “KNOCK OUT” these heart worms!  I’m gaining the appropriate weight so I can win round 2 of my heartworm treatment. Part of my daily “daily training” includes eating well, getting lots of rest, and showing how much I love and appreciate my foster family.  I am getting stronger every day- just this week I mustered up enough energy to slowly climb up on the couch.  Jumping isn’t really my thing. I do everything in a very calm and slow pace.  The only thing I really move fast for is the word “snack” – because I LOVE snacks!  My foster parents tell me how handsome I am and how I am going to make someone very happy.  You know what…..they are right.  If you would love to be my forever family, please fill out an adoption application on www.nobordersbulldogrescue.org

8/29/2016 Update: What an exciting last couple of days.  Rocky arrived in the Dallas area on Thursday afternoon after a very long road trip.  Rocky is a VERY sweet boy who wants to be by your side at all times.  He will go absolutely everywhere with you, if you let him!  Rocky spent the first couple of days catching up on his rest and getting acclimated to his new routine.  Rocky was a stray and therefore is always looking for his next meal in fear it may be difficult to come by.  Over the last couple of days, he has been fed only the best with “healthy” snacks sprinkled in and lots of fresh water.  He loves coconut oil, pumpkin and green beans and going outside with you.

Unfortunately Rocky is heart worm positive and on Monday received his first round of treatment.  Rocky’s foster family is eager to have him back so he will know how bright his future is!  Watch for Rocky’s updates as he gets stronger and stronger and prepares to find his forever home.  Are you interested in being Rocky’s “rock” for life?  If so, please fill out the adoption application.

8/26/2016 Update: Rocky had a VERY big day yesterday. hung up his Razorback gear and joined the Longhorn nation. He officially made the 5 hour drive from Little Rock, AR to Dallas TX.  Rocky handled the day like a professional traveler.

When you meet Rocky one of the first things you notice is his personality, he is a total goof ball. He started the day by sneaking a quick snack before hitting the road.  While his temporary foster mom/guardian angel was packing the bags, she turned her head for a quick minute only to turn back around and find Rocky face first in the open bag of dog food.  After his quick impromptu snack, Rocky was good to go. They loaded up and headed south.  Rocky met our volunteer and quickly got acquainted. Rocky jumped into the car and was ready to get going.  He immediately propped his head up on the console and his back legs on the armrest and laid there on his back for the next 100 miles. Everything was uneventful until the first pit stop. While Rocky’s chauffeur stopped to get gas, Rocky decided it was time to investigate the back seat, where he found the bag of food his foster mom had packed and helped himself to another snack. After a quick bathroom break it was on to Dallas.

Rocky also visited the vet where we confirmed that he is Heartworm positive.  He also has intestinal parasites and a mild case of colitis. Dr. H started him on medication for both the parasites and colitis. He will start his Heartworm treatment first thing Monday morning. He also has a minor skin infection and is underweight. He will be starting a feeding program of high calorie food and some treats to help add a few extra pounds onto his boney little behind.

Rocky then went from the clinic to meet his is new foster mom. Again, he did a quick meet and greet, jumped right into the car and was ready to go. He settled in last night with no issue and seems to be adjusting very well. With a personality like this little guy, we doubt he has ever had a bad day in his life, EVEN when he was left at a high kill shelter to fend for himself. But thanks to his guardian angel/AR foster family he will never have to worry about things like that again. (cue the Eye of the Tiger music …..)

8/14/2016 Update: Rocky is settling in wonderfully!  He has made friends with the resident pups and has proven that he will be a very welcomed part to any family!  we had a neighborhood BBQ with at least 15 children running around having a water gun fight.  He greeted everyone with a smile and welcomed the wet pats and hugs from all of the kiddos.  He is transitioning from street dog/shelter pup to home-life wonderfully.  We are working on “take easy” and also detouring the counter surfing.  We realize he had to make it on the streets and his ribs showing prove he had it rough.  His last 4 days have been filled with high calorie puppy food, lotsa love and belly rubs 😊.

8/12/2016 Update: Please welcome Rocky to the No Borders Bulldog Rescue family. Rocky is a 5 yr. old English Bulldog that was found as a stray. He was taken to a HIGH KILL  shelter in an area with no Bulldog rescue.  A follower of NBBR quickly notified us and asked if there was anything we could do to help. After speaking to the shelter, it was found that they would not hold him for a rescue due to the fact he was “highly adoptable”. That is when Rocky’s guardian angel (the follower that alerted us to Rocky’s plight) leapt into action. After a very short call with her, she quickly rushed to the shelter and adopted Rocky. Since she already has two dogs and two small children she knew she couldn’t keep Rocky but knew he needed help. So she quickly surrendered Rocky to us so that we can help him get the medical attention he needs.

Rocky has several issues, he is very thin weighing only 37 lbs. In addition to being grossly underweight he is also Heartworm positive.  Heartworm positive dogs typically don’t look “sick” but it is a very serious condition that left untreated can cause death. Rocky will begin a heartworm treatment that will require him to be on crate rest for the next 60 days.  Once he is cleared from the clinic he will begin his search for his forever home.

Rocky appears to be great with other dogs and children. He has settled into his foster home well and even seems to think he owns the joint.  Are you in need of a Bulldog that is so full of love he can’t contain it? If so, Rocky is just the guy for you.
