2/17/2024 Update:

Nelson was ADOPTED!!!  It with the greatest of pleasure we are able to announce that Nelson has found his forever home.

Nelson joined the NBBR family as a stray.  Nelson was found as a stray running the streets in Central Texas by a Good Samaritan. Nelson’s Good Samaritan was no stranger to rescuing stray animals, so they immediately started spreading the word on Nelson.  They tried social media, hung signs locally, and everything else they could think of. None of these attempts helped to find Nelson’s owners.  The finders knew that it can sometimes take a while to reunite a stray pet, so they kept trying.  Unfortunately, they were unable to keep Nelson with them because they already had 7 rescues.   So, they found a friend that agreed to foster Nelson while they continued to look for his missing family.  Days turned into weeks and weeks turned into a month with no luck. On top of all this, Nelson’s temporary foster stated that they could no longer watch him and he needed to go. Nelson was listed on Facebook asking for help.  One of our followers suggested the family contact NBBR.  The rest as they say, was history.

Nelson is all Frenchie. He is full of energy and appears to have never met a stranger.  During his transport he was sitting in the backseat with a volunteer, and he was giving kisses and dancing on the volunteer’s lap. Nelson joined the NBBR Foster to Adopt program.  This program allows us to help more Bulldogs. The Foster to Adopt means that a foster family will take a dog sight unseen and agree to foster them while working on any medical or behavioral issues.  Most of these families ultimately want a Bulldog of their own. So…. if while fostering their new pup they fall in love, they have first rights to adopt. That is exactly what happened with Nelson. While working Nelson’s manners one thing led to another and Nelson found his new forever Mom.  In addition to a new Mom, Nelson will be getting a new name (Dante), a new canine brother and a human sibling.  What a way to start the new year for sure.   Congratulations to Dante and his new family, it is definitely a match made in heaven.

11/27/2023 Update:

We had a quiet week, couple of rainy days. He definitely does not like rain. But I discovered that he likes kale. I just let him have a couple bites, didn’t want to overload him…
Still doing great on walks. He looks but goes on whenever we see another dog. I got a pic of him enjoying some sunshine, I have attached it.

11/13/2023 Update:

We got the stitches out from his neutering surgery and was cleared to go back to a normal routine. That means running and playing! There were several rainy days, he doesn’t like to go outside in the rain. Unless I take an umbrella and go out with him! We are still working on not jumping on visitors. He is getting better about pulling on the leash when we go for a walk. Otherwise, it has been a rather quiet week.

11/6/2023 Update:

This past week has been very quiet, recovering from surgery so he has been doing lots of resting. And is he BORED! He wants so much to run and play with his foster brother. I will take him Wednesday to get the stitches out and hopefully Dr. Holbrook will give him the all clear to resume his usual activities.

10/23/2023:

Nelson had a good week, lots of playing and some walks when it wasn’t too warm out. I discovered that he likes Brussels Sprouts. But he definitely does not like bananas.  The favorite toy this week has been an elk antler. He takes outside with him when he goes, and he makes sure he knows where it is at all times.
When he wakes up in the morning he stretches his front legs out, then sticks his left hind leg straight out behind him for a few seconds. Only the left one. He looks like he is doing some sort of yoga!

10/16/2023 Update:

Nelson is fitting in wonderfully, he and foster brother PJ are continuing to get along great. We are working on manners while on a leash and also not jumping up on people.
I noticed one day this past week that several toys were missing so I went looking for them. I found them, all in Nelson’s crate! I put them back in the toy box, so now every time he goes outside he takes a toy.
We had a good time at the NBBR event at The Truckyard. He got to meet new people and hang out with some new bulldog buddies. He was really tired afterward, he went to sleep soon after he had dinner. We are looking forward to another get-together.
10/9/2023 Update:
We have had a pretty quiet week, met some of the neighbors on our walks.
They all said how adorable he is.
Nelson enjoyed walking through puddles after the rain, and is still determined to catch a squirrel!
Around midday we have a snack, a slice of apple or some cucumber or maybe some fresh green beans. He is not a picky eater and will at least try something new.
He got a bath, he was very good and didn’t seem to mind it.
That is about all for this past week, looking forward to seeing everyone on the 14th.
9/25/2023 Update:
It has been a week since he arrived and he is settling in nicely.
He likes going outside in the mornings while it is still cool after we have breakfast, after that it is playtime. He and Foster Brother PJ play together really well. Nelson also likes to watch the birds on the feeder.
It rained last night so we found out that he is scared of thunder. Thankfully it didn’t last long. He is a quiet guy and doesn’t bark much. In the evenings he sits with me on the couch while watching tv.

Sept 19,2023 Update:

Please welcome Nelson to No Borders Bulldog Rescue. Nelson is a 1year-old male Pied French Bulldog that weighs approximately 28 lbs.

Nelson joins the NBBR family as a stray.  Nelson was found as a stray running the streets in Central Texas by a Good Samaritan. Nelson’s Good Samaritan is no stranger to rescuing stray animals, so they immediately started spreading the word on Nelson. On top of all this, Nelson’s foster stated that they could no longer watch him and he needed to go. Nelson was listed on Facebook asking for help.  One of our followers suggested the family contact NBBR.  The rest as they say, is history.

Since Nelson was in Central Texas and his NBBR foster home was in DFW, there was some coordinating that needed to be done.  Never fear, our volunteers sprung into action and arranged for Nelson to make his way from Central Texas to DFW. Once the pickup and transport to DFW was complete, Nelson spent the night with a temporary foster family.   He woke up the next morning and took a trip to the clinic for a once over, updating his vaccines and a heartworm test.   Nelson has a case of intestinal worms, so he was treated for those.   Everything else checked out well and Nelson met his foster family. The next step…. his foster home where he will relax until his neuter appointment (the clinic is backed up, BUT Nelson is on the schedule.)

Nelson is all Frenchie. He is full of energy and appears to have never met a stranger.  During his transport he was sitting in the backseat with a volunteer and he was giving kisses and dancing on the volunteers lap.  He did finally relax, FINALLY.  Nelson is a runner. He wants to explore, unsupervised (running in the yard) or supervised (walking on his leash).   There are a few things that Nelson and his foster family will need to work on.  First, walking politely on a leash and not pulling everyone where he wants to go. Second, not to mark things in the house.  We are sure with a neuter and some gentle reminding he will be a whole new man.  Nelson is a very adaptable little guy. He likes to explore and is very easy going no matter what he encounters on his journeys. Please stay tuned for more updates on Nelson as we learn a little more about him each week.
