Luna
Breed: Olde English Bulldog
Sex: Female
Age: 8 months old
Weigh: 57 lbs.
3/8/2019: Update:
Luna was ADOPTED!!! Miss Luna joined a very exclusive club today…. the No Borders Bulldog Rescue alumnae club.
Luna joined the NBBR family in very dire condition. At 8 months old Luna joined NBBR as an owner surrender. Luna had PARVO. The truly sad thing about this story is that the parvovirus is completely preventable, all it takes is vaccinations. This obviously wasn’t the case for Luna. Luna was purchased from a breeder on Craigslist by a local family. The family was told that she had all her vaccinations and the breeder would send the paperwork when they returned home. No proof of vaccination records were ever received. The family continued to contact the breeder trying to get the vaccination records. Once the money had exchanged hands, all communication stopped. Luna was taken to a local vet where the parvo diagnosis was confirmed. She was in very bad shape. She had been vomiting fir three days and was extremely dehydrated. Her mucus membranes were very pale and she had very little energy.
Parvo is a very serious disease and that can cause death in a very short period of time without treatment. The parvo treatment can be very expensive. This expense is why the family decided to surrender Luna. They knew they could not afford the treatment and the only alternative they had would be to euthanize her. They called NBBR and asked if we could help. A NBBR volunteer dropped everything and picked Luna up to get her to our clinic. Luna immediately required IV fluids, lab work and many other treatments to save her life. The good news was that her white blood count was high (which is a good thing) and she is a FIGHTER. Even while fighting for her life you could see the sweetness in her eyes. Her eyes seemed to be pleading for love and help.
Flash forward to today…. Luna is a perky, happy girl. Not only has she made a complete recovery but today she found her forever family. When Luna joined the NBBR family, it was apparent that she was more athletic than the average English Bulldog. She arrived with papers that said she was a registered Olde English Bulldog. Many people have asked if she had Boxer in her lineage. All her foster Mom knew was she was a great dog and she wanted Luna to go to the perfect home. Not perfect in regards to perfection, but perfect for Luna. Enter Luna’s forever family. They have lost two Boxers in the past and wanted a “larger, more athletic” companion. They recently adopted a family member from the shelter that was very timid and took several months to become comfortable in her new environment. When she did, she appeared to be lonely and needed a playmate. When the two ladies met, they instantly became “sisters”. Since it was apparent that the “girls” approved of one another, Mom and Dad where elated. Congratulations to the entire family! We thank you for opening your hearts and home to Miss Luna. We know you will receive a lifetime of love in return.
3/3/2019 Update:
All I can say is Pawdi Gras is my new favorite holiday! What fun I had getting so much attention. Thank you to all the wonderful people that stopped to pet me and give me belly rubs 😍. I have to admit I was pretty tired by the end so forgive me if I was catching a nap in the middle of all the fun.
Thanks to those of you that noticed what a good girl I am. It is easy to be good with so many people giving me attention. Really I just love being with people. I love big, small, old and young. There really isn’t a person I don’t love.
I enjoyed all the dogs too! It was especially fun playing with another young dog that was there. He did the “play bow”to me and we were off! I like to wrestle and really play tough so not all dogs get me. I like almost all dogs but sometimes a dog isn’t my type and I might growl. Once foster mom pets them then I know they are ok and I usually don’t have to growl any more.
I slept like a rock last night but I am back full of fun today! Wrestling and chewing bones has filled my Sunday.
2/25/2019 Update: Hi! Luna is my name and loving is my game! I love snuggles and kisses and attention in general! If you were at the bulldog event last week I want to thank you for all the pets! I loved meeting everyone!
The only downer this week was I started feeling bad again and foster mom took me tot he see the doc. I live all my friends at the doc but they found out I was starting to get UTI again. Bit of a bummer but I get my medicine in cream cheese! That works for me!
So come see me at the big Pawdi Gras party this weekend. I will be there accepting all the attention you can dish out!
2/11/2019 Update:
What’s up!?? This is Luna and I am excited to report I got the “all clear” from Dr. H!! My UTI is completely healed and let me tell you how much better I feel! I am able to sleep better now which Foster Mom says has mellowed me out a little. Of course I think it is just because I am becoming a more mature young lady. I do still have some puppy in me and LOVE my playtime in the morning and after dinner. I also love my new special food just for me. It is supposed to be good for you urinary tract, but whatever, it taste GREAT! I am sooo happy I get to stay on it forever.😋
I am still a little nervous with new things but Foster mom was so proud of me yesterday when I jumped down out of the car all by myself for the first time ever! Whew! I still get nervous about getting in the car and Foster Mom has to pick me up and put me in. Once I am in the car though I enjoy being along for the ride. Soooo, this Saturday I will be at the Bulldog event at Rahr and ‘sons Brewing company so PLEASEEEEEEE come pet me! Belly rubs are my FAVORITE thing in the whole world just in case you were wondering. Foster mom says I “melt” when given attention. What does that mean? I just know pets are so wonderful that my legs collapse and I slide to the floor. Hope to see you at the event and I promise to show you my adorable “puppy eyes” to let you know how thankful I am1
1/28/2019 Update: Ok, when is this cold outside thing going to end? I love to play outside and this cold weather sure makes for chilly play time. When I can’t take the cold I just do my zoomies inside, but it is hard to get traction on the wood flooring and sometimes I go flying sideways. That sure makes foster mom laugh! Foster Mom says I need to tell you what a sweet girl I am. I love attention so much I close my eyes and soak it up. I think I like attention more than ever and Foster Mom has figured out if I get too rowdy she can calm me right down my whispering to me and kissing my face as she rubs my head. AHhhhhhhhh. It’s so nice.
I have had a few accidents in the house. I went to see the doctor and they found out I had a severe urinary tract infection. I am feeling soooo much better now and not wetting the bed any more. The other accidents (the #2 kind 😷 ) were because…..well…..I guess I just didn’t want to go out in the cold by myself. If Foster mom will stand outside with me before bed, I am a much better girl.
In general I do much better in all regards when I get attention and get to be with my pack and my people. I also like attention from other dogs. I have gotten to meet quite a few dogs over the last few months and for the most part I have liked them all. I like to play so I am always happy to have a playmate if one is available.
I am learning to like TV time. Sometimes there are some interesting things that make me watch, but when it gets boring I like to play or sleep by my fur friends and people. My spot is by my foster mom on the couch. Sometimes I sit up like the humans and foster mom thinks that is so funny!
Hope to see you soon!
1/14/2019 Update:
Luna here! Can you believe the cowboys lost? I don’t really watch, but I get great naps during the game. 🙃 I just like the games because it means great family time and I can usually get some snuggles and belly rubs while the game is going. I could watch football with you! Or rom-coms, or whatever you like! If you let me on the bed or couch to watch tv I will stretch out and enjoy whatever you want!
So, this cold weather is really putting a damper on my outside time. It means I have to get my zoomie laps done inside. With wood floors I have perfected my corner slides. I bet I would be pretty cool to watch in slow mo 😂. I tuck my tail and stretch my legs for my turbo boost! Love my outside time but I have been napping a little more with this cold weather. Brrrrr!
So her are my “interesting facts of the week:
-
- Have I told you I love kisses? My cheeks were made for kissing. What can I say? Everyone tells me how silky smooth all my fur is but my cheeks and ears are like velvet (or so I have been told). If you love on me and kiss my checks I will close my eyes and take deep breaths and soak up the love! It puts me into a trance!
-
- Well, thus is a little but embarrassing to admit as full blooded dog, but I am not much for walks. I like my familiar environment, so who needs to check out anything else? Why would I want to have a harness put on me either. What is up with wanting to put those weird straps around me? Seriously?. I can just play at home! I don’t have to go anywhere to do that!
- I am such a good girl with treats. I have learned I have to be very patient and gentle to get my treats. Every once in a while I get so excited I try to jump, but that never works so I hardly try any more.
I am ready to meet you so you can check out my kissable cheeks! See you soon!
Luna ♥️
1/8/2019 Update: Luna here! I have been having a great 2019 so far, but it would be even better if I had my forever home. Don’t get me wrong, my temporary family is great, but I would love my very, very own forever family. I have SO much love to give and would be VERY happy to see you ever time you walked in the door. Even if you are only gone 5 minutes, I will be SOOOO happy you are back1
So, how about those COWBOYS!!! We had a bunch of nice people over to watch the game with us, so I dont know if I was happier about all the attention and love I got, or happier about the Cowboys winning! It was pretty nice being told what a good girl I am by all those nice people. The more people the better as far as I am concerned. I have PLENTY of love to spread around.
Today started off kind of different. There was all this big noise next door. I couldn’t really see what it was because of all the trees, but it sure was interesting. My foster mom said it was a tractor and they are getting ready to build a house next door! That will be sooooo interesting to watch. I wanted to stay outside and watch and listen all morning. Especially since it was such a beautiful day!
I like watching from a distance. If there is anything new too close, I kind of like to back up and assess from afar. I am curious, but cautious. A girl cant let her curious nature get her in trouble. You never know when it might turn out to be a MONSTER! I am still a kid you have to remember.
I also did some sun bathing today and lots of playtime outside. It was a great day for that!
Well, that’s it for now! It’s dinner time and I am NEVER late for that
1/1/2019 Update:
Classified ad for Luna would read as follows:
Seeking meaningful relationship with active person/ family:
Beautiful young female Olde English bulldog. Love languages are together time and physical touch. Wants to be close whether snuggling, chewing a bone, or wrestling (yes, favorite place to wrestle with other dogs is in your lap 😂).
Great communicator (Very ‘talkative” and not afraid to tell you when something is on her mind….mainly when she is ready for you to wake up).
Occupation: Detective. Very observant if anything unusual shows up or she hears an unusual noise. Will then cautiously investigate to make sure it isn’t a monster. Investigates everything in the yard. If something interesting shows up on the ground she will diligently investigate (dig) even if it means getting her paws dirty.
Outgoing. Loves other dogs and is very active. Lack of sense of personal space shows up with dogs too. She will literally sit on another dog if they are by her when she decides to sit down. 😂Mostly received well by other dogs .
Hobbies include running, misc landscaping like trimming bushes and tasting grass, napping, wrestling, playing chase and belly rubs.
Looking for a serious relationship with person or family that is ready for a fun family member!
12/24/2018 Update: Luna here! I don’t know about you but Christmas is my new favorite day! I got new toys to play with! One of the new toys us furry and makes the best squeak noise when we bite on it! My fur friends and I had so much fun playing keep away. One of us would get it and run around the yard while the other two chased and tried to get it back. Then when I wasn’t paying attention….BAM! One of them would get it and take off with me in hot pursuit! Sometimes all three of us would get it at once and then three way tug of war was on! But not long after my HUGE fur family friend and his fur sister cane over and it was dog bedlam! Don’t tell him but I have a major crush on him. I may have given it away with all the kisses I gave him and literally throwing myself at his feet, but he is just soooo handsome! We all got put outside for a while (we were a bit wild at first) to play chase and wrestle. We played so hard that after a couple of hours we all had to take a Christmas nap.
I got so much attention from the people too. They all said how pretty I am. I sure hope the handsome fur boy was listening to that!
I made sure I kept everyone safe by barking at any new noise. Sometimes if it was strange enough I would run and sit on my ladies foot. I hope she thinks it was because I wanted to protect her and not because I wanted her to protect me. 😉
I hope you had as good of a Christmas as I did! See you soon!
12/17/2018 Update: Hello Everyone! Luna here1 Want to play? Playing is my FAVORITE thing of all! Napping is my next favorite, but I don’t want to sleep too much when there is so much playing to do! This week has been pretty much the usual. I need my people up at 7:30 no matter what day it is. I like my breakfast pretty much right away. Then it is play time for a few hours. I nap mostly in the afternoon and then dinner by 6:00. After dinner is my BEST playtime when I really like to run. My sore leg is finally getting better so now I can really run! I get kind of wild so my people know to let me outside to get my big “zoomies” in.
I am a very fit girl so I have to get my running in to keep my girlish figure you know. After I come in from “zoomies”, I still have plenty of play in me. I want to chew bones and wrestle. I get in trouble during this time when I want to play bite with my people. They say “OW!! NO, NO LUNA!” but I just cant help myself! I am such a strong fit girl! I am still such a puppy at heart even if I look like a big girl. I can still be clumsy at times and a stream lined speed demon the next.
My people also tell me how beautiful my fur coat is. I am such a pretty girl and that sure helps when I need puppy eyes to get me out of trouble when I play too rough. wink, wink! I hope I get to meet you soon!
12/10/2018 Update: Merry Christmas Everyone!
I don’t know about you, but I love Christmas! At least I love it now. At first I was very alarmed by the bright boxes that would suddenly appear under the new tree in the room. I had to make sure there weren’t monsters in the boxes! I barked and when it didn’t bark back, I snuck up on it to sniff it’s butt. It doesn’t appear to have a butt, and it never moved, so we are all good now!
I especially like this whole Christmas thing because lots of people come over and I get lots of attention! I will take all the pats and belly rubs you can dish out. One day, we had A LOT of people show up and I have seen some of them before on the outings to things my human calls “Bull Dog events”. They are all SO nice and gave me lots, and lots of love. I was so tired the next day I had to double up on my naps.
When not napping I really enjoy playing with the other dogs. There are two older dogs that don’t want to play with me, but that’s ok, but there are two others that do! We play “keep away the bone”, and “tug of war”, but my favorite is “wrestle”. The other puppy sometimes play bites me so hard I yelp! He has such sharp little teeth! I like my side kicks so much that it is hard to get a picture of me alone as you see. I need my play time for sure. I really like to play hard after dinner. I don’t know why, but dinner really energizes me! My human lady knows to let me out to run when I get a little too energetic.
I still DO NOT understand why I cant eat at the table thing with the humans! I LOVE their food and I whine and talk, but they just say “no”. Big Bummer. Sometimes if I lay quietly (and by quietly, I mean I only whine a little) I will get a bite or two once they carry their plates to the kitchen. I try to be good when they say the “No” word, because I always get at least a rub on the head.
So, speaking of food, I have some quirks. I like my breakfast in the kitchen, but I like my dinner with the other dogs in the laundry room. It just seems to taste better that way and I am much more comfortable eating my breakfast by myself. That way I don’t have to worry about any dogs sniffing around my bowl. For some reason, I don’t get as nervous at night eating with the other dogs. What can I say? I have my human trained pretty good don’t I?
I do love my humans. I like to be in the room with them as much as possible. I am definitely not a loan ranger. When they have to leave the house, I am a good girl when they are gone and just hang out in the house. I don’t make any messes so they trust me to be out in the house.
Well, that’s all I have time for today! I have to go take another pre-dinner nap.
12/3/2018 Update: Shhhhhhhh! Luna is sleeping and I want to take this opportunity to tell you the top 10 things about her.
1. Let’s start with the obvious. She is stunning. Who couldn’t gaze into these eyes and fall in love? The little wrinkle/ridges across her snout that end with the perfect nose of coal is adorable. The glossy coat so glamorous!
2. Very, VERY talkative. She whines, barks, yips…. anything to let you know what she is thinking.
3. Super “scaredy cat”. Last night she went into full alert because a present got added under the tree and she didn’t see me put it there😂. I had to pick it up and show it to her and then she cautiously approached to sniff. It is her first Christmas after all. Every day is something new for her to learn. When she first came to us she jumped at every noise and wouldn’t think of going outside by herself. Now she is still jumpy at noises but will go outside by herself. I am pretty sure she will always be jumpy with new things but makes for a great alert dog!
4. LOVES play time! Luna is very active and will need room to run and play. She loves to wrestle and play with other dogs, so if she were to be one a one and only she would require lots of attention. Every night we have learned that after dinner when she is her most active, it is easier to just take her outside for some zoomie running time. If not, it is complete bedlam of dogs running and chasing, and wrestling! Right now Luna has a limp which appears to be a sprained muscle. It gets worse after her running around but it is pretty much impossible to stop her. It doesn’t seem to bother her when running but the running seems to inflame it for an hour or so.
5. NO kennel for this girl. I don’t know if it was because of her extended time in a kennel because of her parvovirus, but I only tried once to get her in a kennel and it scared her so much I haven’t tried again. She really doesn’t need a kennel. She is a great house guest. It took a couple of weeks, but she is completely house trained. She has chewed on the corner of a table a couple of times but spraying it with bitter apple spray has cured that.
6. Luna is a lover. She loves any attention she can get. She will want to be by you and will crawl all over you until she gets some. It is so sweet when you talk soft love words to her and she just licks her lips and melts into you.
7. Love bites: literally. When Luna is feeling loving and playful at the same time she gives love bites. Emphasis on bites. She doesn’t know her strength and frequently the love bites hurt. Not to the point of breaking skin but, ouch! When she is in this mode, you try to pet her and she wants to bite at your hand. It is never an aggressive thing. Definitely a play thing for her. We have been working on “gentle Luna” and I think it is slowly improving.
8. Jumping Luna. Luna struggles to contain her enthusiasm when excited and boy does she get excited when you return home! She is a big strong girl so it is no small thing to have her jumping on you. It is a work in progress but you have to love her enthusiasm!
9. Luna is good with other dogs. However, she will stand up for herself. If a dog is aggressive with her then she will dish it right back. She is such a puppy still and so “in the face” of other dogs that they have to be able to handle that. If they can, then she will be their best friend. On the other hand, she does live with a senior female that wants nothing to do with her and has learned to steer clear. Just be aware that if your dog is willing, then so is she.
10. Not much interest in walks or stairs. Luna likes her house and yard and goes on full alert if the leash comes out or you act like you are going somewhere. I tried to get her to go to my home office upstairs and she was having nothing to do with that. If you want her to go somewhere then you will have to pick her up to get her in the car. Once you get there then she she doesn’t want to get out of the car, so once again you will need to pick her up to get her out. Once at the destination she is happy but cautious. Luna is happy to be a home body.
** I wanted to keep this to 10, but I have to tell you one more thing about Luna that I find adorable. There is a new puppy in the house and Luna is so sweet with him. She almost mothers him at times she will lay down and let him crawl all over him and tug at her ears and jowls. She is such a sweet girl.
That’s the top 10! She can’t wait to meet you so you can see for yourself.
11/25/2018 Update: Wow! I have been so busy. I hate that I missed the last event because I really like those, but my foster parents went out of town and I couldn’t make it. While they were gone, a nice man and his girl came to stay with me. They brought these new dogs with them and one of them is this huge handsome fellow that loves to play! He came with another girl dog that was more my size but I really like the big boy. 😍 He stayed with us for a few days and then came back again on a day when there were lots of other humans here. We ran and wrestled for hours and it was awesome! I still played with my home pack too, so today I am catching up on my beauty rest.
I have to say when there were lots of people here I was quite popular. I got so much attention and it was awesome! I would get so excited that I would jump up to get closer to them but they kept telling me “no” so I tried really hard to stay down. They would make up for it by letting me curl up next to them when I wasn’t playing and that was heavenly. I even heard some people saying they wanted to sneak me home in their suitcase (what is a suitcase?).
I did learn about turkey! Wow! That is worth sitting for! I have learned to keep myself planted and the reward is huge! Every once in a while it was just too hard and I would jump a little but the turkey would get pulled back. The trick to getting turkey is sit very still and gently take the turkey and there will be more!
Did I tell you I have done my business outside for over a week now! That makes the humans very happy and they tell me “good girl”!
I like my sleep, but by 7:30am I am ready for breakfast! I like to go out to do my business, “good girl”, then straight to breakfast! Then some play time and tug of war, and then nap and play off and on all day. At night, after dinner of course, is when I really have a burst of energy.
The house just can’t contain me, so they usually let me out to do some zoomies! After that I can play at an “inside” level. By 9:30 or 10 pm, I am exhausted and put myself to bed.
I can’t wait to see you at the next event!
11/12/2018 Update:
Hi! My name is “No,No Luna”. Sometimes my other name is “Good girl Luna”. I like the tone of their voices so much better when they say my ” Good girl Luna” name, so I am trying to figure out how to get them to use that name more. I am pretty sure when I go to the door and knock to go out they are always going to say ” good girl”. I will keep you posted on that one.
I get the “No, No Luna” name when I chew on the big wood square in the middle of the room. Good grief. I just don’t understand humans. They put a big square chunk of wood in the middle of the room and then tell me I can’t chew it? Why is it even there???
While I am getting it all out there, I have to say I think it is SO unfair when the humans sit at the table and eat amazing smelling things and don’t share. Geesh! Tonight they had something called chili and I wanted some sooooo bad. I even told them multiple times and put on my best puppy eyes, but nada for this girl. Every time I jumped up to make sure they understood I WANT SOME NOW, they just called me the “No,No Luna ” name and pushed me down. I guess it’s not all bad. They put some really good tasting gravy of some sort on my food. I cleaned my plate!
So Luna’s my name, but ZOOMIES are my game! I have to get some good zoomies in after every meal for sure with a few more thrown in for good measure during the day. Then some wrestling thrown in for good measure. Oh! I definitely need some bone chewing too! I love all kinds of bones!
I have also learned about something wonderful called a treat! I hope you have some for me when we meet. I will even sit and give you big puppy eyes for some of those. The humans here make me sit and I cant jump up to get it but it’s worth it.
So, I just had dinner a little bit ago and now the human lady is tapping her fingers on this flat thing, but I want her attention! I am literally throwing myself at her but she keeps tapping away. What does a girl have to do for some play time!?? She took me outside so I could run some zoomies, but I want more! Now I am laying next to her biting at her hand, so she gave me a bone. We’ll see how long that lasts… oh, one of the other dogs wants to wrestle! Game on!
Ok, I’m back! Biting at her hand again and crawling on her lap so she will quit tapping on the flat thing. Oh! She just kissed my nose! I love attention. ♥️
In a little bit I will go to bed. I sleep like I play, with complete commitment. If you want to play like I do you need a good night sleep. I like my bed to be close by the humans. I don’t like being alone and I have to make sure I can raise the alarm if there is any little sound. In fact, I think I see a shadow moving outside RIGHT NOW!! Bark, Bark, Bark, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, Bark!
Ok, false alarm. I need a drink of water. I think it is almost time to find a good spot on the couch and curl up so good night until next week. Good night!
11/5/2018 Update: HI! I’m Luna! I am loving life now because I don’t feel sick any more and I am now in a real home!!!! I love all my friends at the vet who took such good care of me during my 3 weeks there, but getting to live with a family is SO wonderful! Life in general is SO
wonderful because of finally getting the all clear on the parvo virus I had. I was so sick when I came in and couldn’t stand or even hold my head up. NOW I am running ZOOMIES with no problem!
I was picked up from the Vet on Friday and my new lady friend took me out to the car and wanted me to get in. I just couldn’t do that because who knows what scary things might be in there! She finally picked me up and put me in in spite of me “stiff legging” and squirming. Once I was on in the car I was so relieved to see that it was just a plain ole car with no monsters! The car ride was ok. She kept reaching back to give me scratches and that was nice. Then, we got to a house and she wanted me to jump down. Oh my! NO WAY!! There could be monsters outside of the car! She tried to lift me out, but I am really good at “stiff legging” and keeping my body low so it took her a while to get me out. At one point she just stood outside and talked to me sweet, but even though I looked out and thought about it, there was NO way I was taking a chance with monsters! Finally she was able to lift me out and guess what??? There weren’t any monsters!!!
Then we went inside and one by one I got to meet new fur friends! There were all very nice to me and let me sniff and I let them sniff me too. Now I have so many new friends to play with. There are two that I especially like. One is a new puppy and he really likes to play. I am careful to be super gentle with him even when he bites and tugs at me. I lay down some when we play to be on his level. Then he loves to crawl all over me.
It’s kind of confusing with all the new stuff happening to me, so I kind of forgot I wasn’t supposed to pee in the house. Truthfully, I wasn’t really sure how to get out. I had a couple of accidents and the lady let me know that all dogs have to do their business outside. It helps that I know which door is the magic one that they open when it is time to go out. Now I get lots of sweet words when I do my business outside so pretty sure I will keep doing that.
My first night in the house I got to sleep in the bedroom with the people. The lady tried to get me into a crate, but that was NOT happening. She was afraid I might pee in the house in the middle of the night, but I am NOT going in a kennel no matter what she thinks. Who knows what would happen if she got me in there1 Finally she gave up. She put a nice dog bed out for me, but I was afraid she might try to put me in the crate again, so I slept on the floor on the opposite side of the bed from her. I was so tired that I slept curled in a ball all night without moving. Now that she knows I am a good girl at night, she doesn’t try to put me in the crate and I sleep on the fluffiest dog bed right beside her. I like it when she gives me kisses before sleep and I curl up and sleep so good. I make sure I am a good girl and stay in my bed until she is ready to get up and let me out.
So, the day after I got there she wanted me to get in the car again. This time she was a little smarter and just picked me up and put me in before I could stop her. I actually got to ride with another of the dogs and we just hung out together very quietly. I lay down most of the time unless she opened the window for me to see out when we were stopped. Car rides are ok, but I sure dont like the getting in and getting out parts. This time when we stopped and she quickly lifted me out (she is getting better at this) and we walked to this place with all kinds of bulldogs and nice people! So many people told me what a good girl I am and how beautiful I am! Wow1 I could get used to this! Also, there were a couple of very handsome bulldogs that really liked me! They wanted to play and were really nice to me. I like to play with other dogs so that works for me!
So in case you haven’t figured it out, I am kind of a scaredy cat-dog. New things and sudden noises just make me want to make sure it isn’t a monster1 Sometimes I walk outside and when I look back in through the door I see someone walking around in the house1 Stranger Danger!!!!!! BARKKKKKKKKKK! Oh, it is just the new nice man that lives here. Ops. My bad.
I also have to admit that I am a big lover. I just LOVE people and other dogs. I want to be where ever they are. Especially the nice lady that feeds me. I want to make sure she has me available at all times. When she goes to the room where the water spills out sometimes and she is behind the glass, I lay right there just to make sure I am available if she needs me. Then she goes and sits down to do things to her face and I lay or play right next to her because you never know when she might need me. When the lady and the man sit in the big room with the talking wall thing, I like to be right at their feet or on the couch next to them. Being with people and other fun dogs is my happy place.
Then today, she threw me a curve ball. She went to a new part of the house she calls “work” and wanted me to go with her. BIG PROBLEM. There are stairs. Stairs!!!!! NO WAY am I risking going up stairs. WHO KNOWS what might be up there!!!!!! So, even though I like to be with her, I decided it was safer to stay in the house rather than go up any scary stairs1 I miss her, but hey, I am alive and NO monsters got me. Maybe after I am around this place a little longer I will be more confident, but for right now I am taking no risks.
Well, that’s all for this week! I look forward to more play and pets! Hope to meet you soon1
Your friend,
Luna
10/8/2018 Update:
Please welcome Luna to the No Borders Bulldog Rescue family. Luna is an 8 month old female Olde English Bulldog that weighs 57 lbs.
Luna joined the NBBR family in very dire condition. At 8 months old Luna joined NBBR as an owner surrender. Luna has PARVO. The truly sad thing about this story is that the parvovirus is completely preventable, all it takes is vaccinations. This obviously wasn’t the case for Luna. Luna was purchased from breeder on Craigslist by a local family. The family was told that she had received all her vaccinations and were told that the breeder would send the paperwork after they got home from meeting the family. No proof of vaccination records were ever sent. The family continued to try to contact the breeder to get the vaccinations but the microchip information-all communication stopped once the money had exchanged hands. For all those looking for a puppy-please do your homework and find a reputable breeder.
Luna was taken to a local vet where the parvo diagnosis was confirmed. She was in very bad shape. She had been vomiting for the past three days and is extremely dehydrated. Her mucus membranes were very pale and she has very little energy. Parvo is a very serious disease and can cause death in a very short amount of time without treatment. The treatment can be very expensive as well, the expense is why the family decided to surrender Luna. They knew that they could not afford the treatment and the only other alternative they had would be to euthanize her. They called NBBR and asked if we could help. A NBBR volunteer dropped everything and went to pick Luna up to get her to our clinic. Luna requires IV fluids, lab work and many other treatments to hopefully save her life. The good news is that her white blood count is high (which is a good thing) and she is a fighter. Even while fighting for her life you can see the sweetness in her eyes. Her eyes seem to be pleading for love and help.
Won’t you please consider a small donation to help offset the high cost of Luna’s treatment. Any amount no matter how big or small will help this precocious little pup. If you can’t donate please say a prayer, send good juju or whatever you think will help Luna. We are and will continue to do everything possible to save her. Please stay tuned for more updates as we get them from the clinic. Currently she is resting and receiving the care that she needs.
