1/2/2017 Update:  Hutch is doing very well. His eyes look very good and are getting better everyday. I believe he is still having a little trouble with his vision, (especially up close) but it is definitely improved from Friday. I would imagine that it will continue to get better. The swelling has gone down from the neutering and he seems no worse for the wear. He is very active and likes to go on walks. At some point in the past he has had some leash training, but he needs some gentle correcting to get him back on course. He loves to smell and “mark” everything he can. We took him to the dog park on Saturday morning. He did very well and had no issues with the others dogs there. He was actually pretty indifferent to them. He is house broken and goes to the back door when he needs to go out and barks when he wants back in. He is also not very interested in items that do not “belong” to him. My kid has toys scattered everywhere and he has not touched them. A sniff here and there, but noting to worry about. I got him a soft chew animal and an Nyla Bone. He knows those are his and will lay on the floor and entertain himself. However, he is very protective of those items and will growl if he thinks they are being taken from him. For the most part he is very calm and will lay around on the floor or couch until there is a reason to get up. He will come when called.

Hutch has been through A LOT of stress and trauma in a very short time and we think that his behavior issues are because he becomes scared.  Hutch will be working with a trainer to determine what the next steps will be to help him become less fearful and more trusting of those around him.  Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers as Hutch works through his issues so that he can find his forever home.

12/28/2016 Update:  Please welcome Hutch to the No Borders Bulldog Rescue Family.  Hutch is a 3 year old English Bulldog that weighs 44 lbs.

Hutch was found as a stray roaming the streets by himself and quickly taken to the local shelter. As soon as we saw his photo, we immediately went into action working with the shelter to free him.  A quick look at Hutch will tell you that he has been neglected for quite some time.  When Hutch was evaluated by the shelter vet, he found multiple conditions needing to be addressed. Both of his eyes are in HORRIBLE shape. Both eyes have huge cherry eyes (tear gland is visible) that are severely infected. In addition to cherry eye, he also has ulcers in his eyes and a potential bacterial infection that is causing large amounts of crusty buildup around his eyes.  Currently Hutch is having difficulty with his vision. We are not sure if it is the cherry eye/infection (they are so large, they are covering large portions of his eyes) or if there is long term damage due to not having his eyes treated properly. His eyes are not the only issue, he has a chipped canine tooth that will need to be removed. He will also be neutered and he is underweight.  Even though the list of ailments is long, there is some good news.  Hutch tested negative for Heartworm!!!

In true NBBR fashion, Hutch was in a shelter several hours away, but, our great volunteers are old hat at this and they quickly had Hutch on his way to Dallas with the other Bulldogs in our program. Hutch will be visiting the clinic today to have his surgical needs addressed. Once released from the recovery unit, he will go directly to his foster home for some rest and recuperation. We are sure Hutch will arrive at his foster family with a bag of medicine and instructions to help him heal.

One thing is for sure, Hutch is full of personality. Even with all the issues he is dealing with, he is a very energetic and happy boy.  The dark days of roaming the streets are behind him for sure, his future will be bright and hopefully soon he will find the forever family that will shower him with the love and attention he so wants, needs and deserves.
