3/7/2025 Update:

Please welcome Groot to No Borders Bulldog Rescue. Groot is a male “Micro-Bully” that is approximately 1.5 yrs. old and weighs 23 lbs.

Groot joins the NBBR family due to be abandoned by his previous owner.   For those of you following our page you will remember Priscilla and how she was abandoned at a local Vets office.  Well, Groot was abandoned at the same time and place as Priscilla (when it rains it pours).   So, we are sure many of you are asking why are we just now posting Groot if he came in the same time as Priscilla? Well, keep reading.    But back to the beginning, Groot was found on a blanket, in the parking lot during the last cold/snowstorm.   Groot was covered in a light coating of snow, dehydrated and “near death” when the vet staff found him.   Thankfully, they found him just in time, brought him inside and warmed him up, gave him fluids and nursed him back to health.   While Groot and Priscilla were found in the same place and within a couple days of each other, the office staff don’t think they are related or came from the same owner, but we will never know because neither of them is talking.  After a couple of days of treatment, the office Veterinarian personally reached out to NBBR and asked if we could take an “English Bulldog and Frenchie” they had at their office. After getting the details and pictures of both we obviously said yes.  Unfortunately, we didn’t have two available foster families BUT like many times before, we took them and “crossed that bridge later”.

Once we picked up Groot his first stop was a visit to the clinic to follow-up on what treatments he would need going forward.  The good news is that thanks to the wonderful care he received at the previous office, Groot appeared to be on his way to a full recovery.  We got GREAT news in that Groot was heartworm negative.  He did however have intestinal parasites, a skin infection and some pretty gunky ears.  He also needed to be neutered.  Obviously, none of these conditions were life threatening but more indication that he was a victim of neglect by his previous owners.   We quickly got Mr. Groot started on medication for all his current aliments, got him neutered and he was given a clean bill of health.

Now let’s address the “elephant in the room”, as you saw we have listed Groot as “Micro-Bully”.  That is a guess on our part, as everyone knows that Micro Bullies are only an “internet thing” and aren’t a recognized breed.  It appears that Groot’s breeder was shooting for that. While the Vet’s office classified Groot as a “Frenchie”, he clearly has other genetic influences going on in that little body of his.  Normally, we don’t take in Bulldog mixes due to the limited foster space and that fact that most adopters that come to a Bulldog breed rescue are looking for a certain look and the “mixes” typically are at a disadvantage.  However, our intake coordinator is a sucker for a cute face and a back story, which Groot has both in spades.

The next topic to discuss is the delay in getting Groot posted.  First, when Groot first arrived, he was weak and need some time gain some strength before we subjected him to a photoshoot and the public.   Once he gained his strength that is when the fun began.   You see, Groot is a diva (can boys be divas?), whatever you want to call him his has attitude.   First thing Groot stated that he wanted complete picture approval for all pictures of him that would be on the website (see picture of him reviewing the proofs on the camera).  THEN he had a list of demands for the location:  reasonable temperature, must be sunny, etc., the list went on and on.   He only wanted us to talk to his “handler” (foster family) and wanted to be assured that there would not be any other paparazzi present when he made his debut.  Once that was negotiated, we could FINALLY get some pictures of the boy.

Personality:  there is clearly about 100 lbs. of personality packed in that little 23 lb. body.   Groot gets along with everyone he meets.  While he can be a little “in your face” he corrects easily.  There are several things that his foster family is working with him.  The first is potty training, when he first arrived the boy had ZERO idea what the term “house broke” meant. Groot’s potty training is a daily process.  He has flashes of brilliance and then not so much.   The good news is that he is very intelligent and wants to please his people.  The second is his manners.  Groot is affectionately called “Sir Humps-a-lot” by his foster family.   We think the name is pretty self-explanatory, but it is baaad.   Sir Humps-a-lot has never met anything he won’t hump, other pets, people, the air (you get the point).   His foster family is working on his manners and are seeing much improvement.  Groot is definitely a cuddler. He loves to snuggle and can spend hours on the couch with you.  Groot is going at 100% until he isn’t. He has energy in excess.  While both Vets that examined him thought he may be around 1.5 old, he has many traits and habits of a much younger pup.   Stay tuned for additional updates on Mr. G in the coming weeks while his foster family molds this little work in progress into the masterpiece that we know he will be (Groot already knows he is a masterpiece, just ask him).
