 4/21/2018 Update:

Gertie was ADOPTED!!!! It is with great pleasure we are able to announce Gertie has found her forever family and will live happily ever after.

Gertie has had a bumpy last year.  In May of 2017 Gertie was placed on Social Media for sale by a family that had had her for several years. After having multiple litters of puppies, her family decided she needed a new home.  Gertie joined rescue and after several months was adopted by her “forever” family.  Needless to say, after approximately 7 months her new family decided it would be best if Gertie was returned to Rescue. Gertie then joined a foster family that showed her unconditional love and helped her overcome a  fear of being abandoned.

Gertie’s forever family started the process several months before she found her way back into rescue. They had no specific expectations regarding what Bulldog would be best for them. They were very patient and they stated they would know when their Bulldog entered Rescue.  When it came time to narrow the list of potential matches Gertie was the only one on the list.  Gertie and the family had 3 Meet and Greets. The first Meet and Greet was only so so,  it was at a busy NBBR event and Gertie was very stressed with all the commotion (and other dogs).   Not to be deterred, the family asked if they could spend some additional time with Gertie in a quieter environment to see how she would respond. That Meet and Greet went very well and Gertie seemed to be very happy with them.  The final Meet and Greet was just to ensure everyone was comfortable and to complete the adoption.  Gertie is very lucky to be part of a very loving and patient family who is already head over heels in love with her.  Who could ask for a happier ending than this?  Congratulations to the entire family but especially to Miss Gertie.

2/27/2018 Update:  Well Gertie is officially the boys ride along to school. She LOVES to go for rides. Every morning she is ready at the door to take the boys to school. She loves to steal the front seat before the oldest one gets it. 😝 She likes to ride shotgun. She is just a little Diva. She likes to lay on her back and get all the belly rubbing you will give, but don’t stop because she will tell her head and look at you like, Is that all, that is if she did not fall asleep during the belly rub. She is the sweetest baby and just wants to be feed, loved and get her beauty rest in.

2/13/2018 Update:  Miss. Gertie is a hoot. She came to us just a couple of days ago. She is so loving. She gets along well with other pups as long as they don’t get up in her face, then she barks at them to let them know that she doesn’t like that. She loves to lay outside and sun in the backyard while Carter and the boys r running and playing. She is not up to all the running around. She likes more of the girly things like sunning. She loves children, snuggling and giving lots of love. She is a mama bear. She is so easy to care for. She just wants to be feed, loved and a comfy place to sleep. When you call her name for a treat, she just wiggles her bully booty in excitement.

2/11/2018 Update:  No matter how hard we screen applicants, sometimes the perfect “forever” home doesn’t turn out that way. With that said, Gertie in back with a NBBR foster family. After nearly 7 months with her “forever” family, it was decided that Gertie needed to be returned. Please keep Gertie in your thoughts and prayers as she is dealing with being abandoned once again. Rest assured that Gertie is in a good place and will be taken care of and spoiled rotten until we find her real forever family.

7/2/2017 Update:  Gertie is having yet another wonderful week.  Tomorrow she goes in to have all of her stitches removed.  We cannot WAIT to get this smelly girl into the bathtub lol!  Her eye looks so much better and all of her incision sites on her tummy have healed very nicely.  She hasn’t even seemed bothered by any of the surgeries. She’s just that easy going and laid back. Although English by blood, we played a little patriotic dress up.  We made sure to be back in the house before the neighbors started setting off bottle rockets.  Gertie is not a fan 😕.

6/25/2017 Update:  UPDATE: Gertie’s pathology report was returned and her mammary masses were benign.  Gertie has been resting and recovering well after her surgery.  She is feeling great and is even trying to go faster than the doc recommends (as in fast asleep 😂).  Hopefully we will know the result on her tumors soon.

We took Gertie for a little Hollywood Feed trip where she was greeted by lots of folks and was so happy to accept any and all belly rubs. Gertie does seem to have a bit of a jealous streak if another dog (that isn’t a resident pup) tries to get some love from her foster mom.  We met a pup who looked like she could have been Gertie’s and she was very green eyed when foster mom went in got some baby bully snuggles.  She did cooperate for this one quick pic though (although the puppy was a wiggle worm lol).  Gertie got herself a fancy new pink harness and was so proud of it all weekend!

6/21/2017 Update:  Gertie’s surgery went well.  They actually removed 3 mammary masses, but doc said the margins were very clear and she feels confident she removed the affected tissue.  We should have the pathology results back within a week (hopefully sooner).  Her spay and entropian surgery all went as routine.  She was alert and so so happy to see me when I picked her up this evening.  10 days of staying calm (which is Gertie’s middle name), and the stiches come out and she’ll be good as new

6/18/2017 Update:  Poor Gertie…Guess who’s foster mom saw Wonder Woman last weekend and thought it made perfect sense to show off her girl power??  Guess what her super power is??  The ability to remove said glasses in record time LOL.  Actually, I’m pretty sure that her super power is her ability to clear rooms with her freight train snores.

Gertie has had a wonderful week.  She is working on her leash manners and is improving without the harness (aka not playing dead and slipping the collar off her noggin). We have been working on “wait” and a “release” for feeding times.  Well, you know this girl loves food so the “wait” for food is a challenge…she’s getting it though. She continues to be a joy to host.  Her best buddy is a tie between her foster-fur-sister and her foster-people-kiddos.

Last week we made a scary discovery on Ms. Gertie.  We found a mammary tumor!  She will have that removed along with her spay and entropian surgery on Wednesday.  If you could please send all of the positive vibes that you could for Gertie to ensure a benign pathology report and a speedy recovery from all of her procedures, we would greatly appreciate it.   Thank you!

6/11/2017 Update:   Gertie had another awesome week!  She is a friend to people of all ages, kitties and most doggies and is a lover of belly rubs and treats.  She continues to do well in the house and she started a supplement to help her stiff joints.

We have learned a few things about this rolly-polly clown.  She is terrified of fireworks and thunder.  She responded well to being redirected to help keep her mind off of the killer booms.
Gertie will be on antibiotics for one more week to clear up her bladder infection and then she will finally be able to have her spay and eye lift.

6/3/2017 Update:   Gertie girl had a vet visit today to see if she can be cleared for her surgeries.  I was really hoping for a green-light since it appeared she has been feeling a million times better.  She is wanting to play with her foster sisters and brother AND she has been much more active.  She still is very slow getting around but she gets there.  I had really thought with her increased movement that she had dropped a few pounds too.  Well…even with my careful measuring, she managed to gain 2 pounds AND she still has bacteria and crystals in her urine.  The doc said that the bacteria count is much lower than the first go around so the antibiotics are working, but she wants her to go on one more round before clearing her for surgery.  She also recommended that Gertie be on a special diet to reduce her crystals and avoid bladder stones.

Gertie continues to be a joy to host.  She enjoys spending her spare time cuddling on the couch with all of the other resident critters and people.  She has not chewed up anything or had any accidents in the house (other than those the first week when her bladder infection was so bad).  She has been granted full run of the house at night and she enjoys holding down the couch to keep watch over the family as everyone snoozes.  One thing that I have noticed is that Gertie is very sensitive.  We have never had to scold her, but if she even thinks you are upset with her she excuses herself to her crate and sulks.  We have been working hard to comfort her and help her feel more secure.  We are going to keep working on keeping her mobile and try to get her to lose a few pounds.  As long as all goes well, she will be having her spay and right eye entropian surgery in two weeks.

5/26/2017 Update:  Gertie is falling into the pack like she was here all along.  Her back-end weakness is noticeably improving with her pedicure removal of 2 inches of overgrown nails and regular play.  It seems as though she was confined to her crate a lot.  She finds comfort in her crate but just based on how some of her fur on her back legs is worn,  it is apparent she spent a lot of time  immobile.  Heck, she even

sprinted in the backyard for a brief moment!  Her itchy skin is improving too!  Her bladder infection also seems to be on the mend.  She’ll be ready for that spay in no time!

5/19/2017 Update:  Please welcome Gertie to the No Borders Bulldog Rescue family. Gertie is a 5 year old female English Bulldog that weighs 55 lbs.

Miss “Perty Gertie” came to rescue through the collaborative efforts of many social media bulldog lovers who wanted to make sure that this breeding mama got the retirement that she deserved. This sweet girl is 55 pounds of solid love.  She’s 5 years old and LOVES EVERYONE of all ages!  She wiggles her bully-booty anytime someone is in her bubble.  Gertie has been a perfect house guest.  She hasn’t had any accidents, has gotten along great with the resident pups, and she even seems to be kitty friendly!  She came to us with horribly overgrown nails, red-itchy allergy skin, some equally itchy ears, and appears to have a tinge of arthritis in the back end.  Gertie visits the vet tomorrow to give her a good once over.  I’m positive that once all the itchies are cleared up, this girl is going to make one very special family feel as though they have hit the jackpot!

We will obviously learn more as we spend time with Gertie, but initial impressions are nothing but a wonderful Bulldog that has HUGE amounts of love to give to that lucky forever family.
