9/2/2018 Update:

Dykeman was ADOPTED!!!!  It is with GREAT pleasure we are able to announce Mr. D has found the perfect family as his forever family.

Dykeman joined NBBR as an owner surrender.  Dykeman’s previous owner had many changes in his life and made the decision to allow Dykeman to find a new forever home.  Dykeman was a well cared for pup and it was a very hard decision for his owner to let him go. We also learned when Dykeman runs too much or overdoes it physically he can have difficulty with mobility afterward.  While he does respond well to pain medication, anti-inflammatories and rate rest, this condition was one reason he was surrendered to Rescue.  Dykeman is a rarity for Rescue. He is a registered Olde English Bulldog (OEBA) and arrived with paperwork in hand. However, you don’t need to see his paperwork to see he is a very handsome boy.  The next thing everyone asks about Dykeman is where did he get his name?  He is actually named after the street he lived on in New York City.  While the family did take some liberties in the spelling of his name it is a unique one for sure.

So, our Big City Boy (New York) has officially become a “country dog”.  While he did have a short stint in Dallas with his previous owner, Mr. D is now living in the wide open country of Texas and LOVING it.  He has a forever sibling that is a PIG (can’t get more country than that), that he LOVES.  This home is the perfect match for him and he couldn’t be happier.  He has plenty of room to run, several play pools to spend his spare time splashing in and a forever Mom and Dad that adore him.  He also has several human cousins he likes to play with. While he can be energetic, he also has a quiet side as well.  He has plenty of people in his life he can snuggle and cuddle with.  All in all, Dykeman doesn’t appear to miss the Big City at all. Can you blame him?  He has his own PIG to play with!! All we can say is YEE HAW, welcome to the country and the good life Dykeman. Congratulation to the entire family.

5/28/2018 Update:  Hi everyone – Dykeman here!  Well, I’ve been grounded inside the house this weekend so I don’t have much to report, unfortunately.  See, what had happened was…………my foster family has this pet Pig and he is just SO MUCH FUN to play with – in the warmer months the Pig has this wonderful play pool and mud hole that he loves to frolic in and splash around in and cover himself in wet mud to keep himself cool.  I’m just a young boy still and all I want to do is play, so when I saw Pig rolling all around and splashing and having a ball in his mud bath, I just HAD to join him, too!  Yeah, yeah, yeah, I heard Foster Mom screaming my name and telling me not to dare go in the mud pool, but I just turned and smiled at her and SPLASH I went!!  Oh oh.  Once I got out, I was really messy.  I had mud everywhere.  I was even tracking it when I walked.  Whew was FM mad at me……….  So, yeah, I had to take a bath right then and there, outside in a play pool where everyone could see me, and it was just so embarrassing.  I knew I was in big trouble……………..but I did let FM take a picture of me – and that darn “well behaved” dog is in the background laughing at me, I know.  I know it’s just too hot to be outside right now, but if I could just play in that mud every day I’d be cooler!!  I’m still grounded indoors for a day or so…….  Oh well, that mud pool was GREAT!  It’s always easier to ask for forgiveness than permission anyways……..Have a good week everyone!!  Love–n- mud, Dykeman

5/20/2018 Update:  Hi there, Dykeman here!  Sorry I’ve been so quiet lately, FM has been super busy with some personal family stuff and she’s been slacking on my photos and updates.  I guess we can forgive her……as you can see, I’m still just adorable and fitting in quite well with my foster family.   I’m still just alllllll about playing.  Now that the weather is getting warmer, I’ve been kinda bummed that I can’t go out in the heat of the afternoons as much as I like to – it’s just been a bit warm and I like to play so hard that I sometimes forget and have to be forced inside to cool down.  There is just SO much excitement going on outside I can’t help myself – there are these new critters I’ve discovered this month called rabbits.  OMG – these are the most fun to chase and run after.  Now if I ever were to actually catch one, I’m not sure what I would do with it, but I just love to go outside every morning and evening and chase the squirrels and rabbits around the yard.  And, when I’m not chasing things and playing, I join my foster sisters in watching the property (we sit out front and supervise) or once everyone is out of the bed in the mornings, we all just take over…..  and I just love to sit with the grandson when he comes over……he likes those video games sometimes, but that’s okay, I just squeeze in next to him and wait for my pettings in between games.  I’ve also been going monthly for my grooming appointments and at first I was a bit shy about all this pampering, but the last time I went I was so proud of how handsome I looked I even posed for photos after my bath!!  I’m just a happy boy…..sure hope everyone is having a good week, too!!  Love, Dykeman.

4/1/2018 Update:  Hello there!  Dykeman here!  I’ve just been enjoying all the outside play time I can handle these past few days……it’s been so nice outside and now that “time has changed” (that’s what the Humans call it), everyone is home when it is daylight and I can just play and play outside.  I love to gather as many sticks as I can find, place them in one big pile, and try to chew on them all.  Sometimes FM gets bored because I like her to sit outside all the time with me, just to make sure I am always safe and not chewing things I am now allowed to, but then I don’t want to come back inside until dark!!  I can be swayed to come in early if I smell something cooking, however.  OH – and going for walks – that is second favorite pastime.  First off, I get to smell all the new smells of the neighborhood, and I get to meet the neighbors if they are also outside.  I am great on my leash – I stay right with the Humans, and I don’t go too fast or too slow.  I keep right up with whatever pace you set for me.  I’m also very well behaved when out on the leash, I never try to run off somewhere I shouldn’t.  I’m just a typical boy – I can be a bit rambunctious sometimes, but that’s how I let you know I want to play.  Basically, I am just perfect!  Love to everyone and hope to see some of you at the next event!  Love, Dykeman.

3/18/2018 Update:  Hi everyone!  Dykeman here!  What a wonderful Spring Break it was.  FM had to work most of it, but that grandson kid of hers was here again.  I love to play with him, so I had a LOT of outside fun all week long.  Our neighbors got a new addition to their family – a horse!  Like a real live one!  I have been amazed by this tall creature.  I like to go see Mr. Horse every morning after breakfast.  Just to see if he is still there……….  Cuz I can’t get over how tall and big he is and how he seems to just stand and stare at me, too!  This country life has really brought out the playful side of me.  I get to run and chase the pig that lives here, and I can run along the fence with the two goats that live with the other neighbors, and now I have this horse – I didn’t think life could get any better – until I got introduced to DogTV.  FM got three free months of this channel that is only for dogs.  I heard FM laughing about it, saying that she didn’t think it was real — that us smart dogs would actually watch TV.  Then, she turned it on.  Well, let me tell you what.  I am mesmerized by this station.  Totally fixated, to be honest.  It’s awesome!  I can sit and watch this channel when FM and FD are at work!!  I watched it so much and so hard the first evening, FM said she had to turn the TV off so my eyes don’t get bad.  How can my eyes get bad when all I am seeing are other dogs and other animals and all the things I love on this big TV screen?  Soft music and soft voices………..I just can’t keep my eyes off the TV!  I can also tell when FM tries to change the station on me.  I bark for her to change it back!!  So, hey everyone, if your family doesn’t have DogTV for you yet – bark at your humans until you get it!!  Until next time, Love, Dykeman.

3/11/2018 Update:  Hello there!  Dykeman checking in!!   My foster family was out of town last week, so I missed checking in last week and I missed the big event on Saturday.  I’m sorry I wasn’t able to update all the fun I was having with my foster siblings at our boarding house.  It’s at the same place I have my doggie day care, so I was quite at home for the week – all I did was play play play and then play some more!  I love toys.  Matter of fact, I can just sit and play with my toys all day if you let me.  I like to be interrupted from toy time to have my cuddles and loves, but after that, I’m back to the toys……….  Once I got back from our week away, I did have a little bit of a tantrum and got into some trouble.  I don’t know why I did this, but I decided to chew up and totally ruin the remote control to the TV.  I guess deep down I was a bit mad at my foster family for leaving me behind on their vacay……..  I do see they bought a new remote and it sits up really high now, mostly so I won’t be tempted to get it again.  I’m sorry I did that, but it sure was tasty!  J  Time change happened this weekend, so now when FM gets home, it will still be daylight!  You know that that means……more play time!  Have a good week, Love Dykeman.

2/27/2018 Update:

Hello everyone, Dykeman here!  I don’t know about you guys, but I am sick and tired of all this rain!  It has seriously hindered my play and social time.  I’ve been a little bored and restless since I can’t go outside like I like to.  FM has been trying to play inside with me, I’m playing with all my favorite toys, but I keep staring out the window wondering when I can go outside and play again………..  now, Sunday was beautiful and we did go to the park and I did get to play outside some then, roll around in lots of mud (there isn’t a mudhole or a play pool I won’t jump in!!) and of course, have another one of those darn bath things again.  I mean, why?  I am just going to get dirty all over again…….

Next week FM is going out of town, so I will be going with my siblings to the dogsitter for 3 days.  I’m excited we are all going together, but I am going to miss my foster family……. Hopefully, however, I can play outside the entire time!!!  Ha.  Until next week, everyone stay dry!!

2/20/2018 Update:  Hello everyone – Dykeman here.  FM had an extra day off this weekend so she invited what she calls a “grandson” to come stay with us for three days.  All I know is he was 10 years old and tons and tons of fun!  I played with him all weekend, which included a game called football (which I figured out is a lot like catch, just a different type ball), and hide and seek was our favorite – that boy would hide, but I could always find him!!   I also had a big bath this weekend after I decided to roll around in some fresh farm dirt that smelled really bad.  I didn’t enjoy that bath much – FM had to scrub me a lot to get all the smells out.  What was the big deal – I was just having some fun???  I absolutely love my Foster Sisters.  The oldest one, another bulldog, has totally taken me in under her care and now we even eat and sleep together!  I just love the idea of having a best friend…….  FS has a special chair that she has let me lay in some……and she doesn’t even growl at me if I’m in it!  I’m still going to Doggy Daycare two days a week, just to get my wiggles out on the days that FM and FD work late.  I love daycare….and I really enjoy riding in the car.  Front seat of course!!  Check out my picture with my wine glass toy…….this is one of my favorites!  Cheers everyone — Have a good week!  Love, Dykeman.

2/13/2018 Update:  Hi its Dykeman!!  I’ve had such a busy week……… lots and lots of playtime, goodies, and cuddles!  FM enrolled me in Doggy Day Care for two days a week so I can get more exercise time when FM and FD are at work.  I had a blast there and met all kinds of new friends.  I love new friends, whether they be human or dog form.  I have yet to meet a stranger!  The cold days this week were a bummer, but I was very intrigued by the fake fireplace heater in FM’s room.  I like to lay and stare at it until I doze off.   I also got a new jacket to wear when I’m outside.  I think I look pretty darn handsome in it, too.  Saturday I had a fun event to attend in Fort Worth.  I think I stole the show because I let everyone pet me………..even the small kids who were there.  I did great with everyone and as a reward, I was able to try some tasty Dog Cake!  It was certainly delicious.  Everyone have a good week, Love, Dykeman.

2/3/2018 Update:  Dykeman here!  Or, as my foster family calls me, “Mr. D,”  and I’m all settled in with my foster family.   I’ve had a fun week so far!  Foster Mom was off work last week so I got to snuggle with her and get acquainted with my foster siblings.  And the weather was nice so I played outside a LOT!  I love outside!  I love sticks and balls and basically any toy I’m allowed to play with.  I fetch and I listen very well to all commands.  I can sit, shake hands, roll over, and ask nicely for my treats.  I bark when a stranger comes to the door or even if I think I smell one close by –  so, I am good for protection also.  I don’t really enjoy taking my meds however.  I don’t care if you put peanut butter on them or disguise them inside a treat.  I will find them, and spit them out.  FM tricked me once and wrapped my meds inside a warm piece of chicken, which I devoured.  We are still working on this – and I’m still trying to find ways to remain stubborn.  My FM has a friend who runs a doggy day care, so I am going to go spend time with her one or two days a week just to have more play time……… I’m excited I get to start that tomorrow!  I’ll tell everyone about my daycare time next week……… have a good week everyone!  Love Dykeman

1/26/2018 Update:

Please welcome Dykeman to the No Borders Bulldog Rescue family. Dykeman is a 1.75 year old male Olde English Bulldog that weighs 58 lbs.

Dykeman joins NBBR as an owner surrender.  Dykeman’s previous owner has had many changes in his life recently and made the decision to allow Dykeman to find a new forever home.  Dykeman was a well cared for pup and it was a very hard decision for his owner to let him go. We also learned when Dykeman runs too much or overdoes it physically he can have difficulty with mobility afterward.  While he does respond well to pain medication, anti-inflammatories and crate rest, this condition was one reason he was surrendered to Rescue.

Dykeman is a rarity for Rescue. He is a registered Olde English Bulldog (OEBA) and arrived with paperwork in hand. However, you don’t need to see his paperwork to see that he is a very handsome boy.  The next thing everyone asks about Dykeman is where did he get his name?  He is actually named after the street he lived on in New York City.  While the family did take some liberties in the spelling of his name it is a unique one for sure.

The first stop for Mr. D was to the clinic to get a look at what could be causing his sporadic mobility issues. While Dykeman is normal 99% of the time, when he does have a flare up, it can keep him sidelined for a couple of days. He got bloodwork, a physical exam and x-rays.  While his hips and knees look to be in really good shape, he may have some congenital narrowing of his vertebrae.

In addition to being a very handsome guy he is in tip top shape as well.  He tested negative for Heartworms, intestinal parasites and was up to date on all of his vaccinations.  Mr. D did leave the clinic with some medication to address his mobility. Dr. H wants to proactively strengthen his spine and the muscles around it. Dykeman is on a special vitamin specifically designed to help his condition as well as a joint supplement and a low dose of a steroid to see how he responds.

Dykeman is a fun loving, happy guy. He loves car rides, where he likes to look out the window and say “hi” to those he sees in the other cars at stoplights.  He also likes to have his paw on your leg while you are driving.   Dykeman joined his foster family tonight and will be settling in this weekend.  Stay tuned for more updates as Dykeman starts his journey to find his forever family.
