Chunky was ADOPTED!!!!
Chunky joined the NBBR family as an owner surrender. Chunky’s story isn’t as straight forward as some… yes he was a surrender, but his story was slightly more complicated than the “average” surrender. Chunky’s previous owners asked a friend to watch him for a couple of days while they dealt with family issues. At the end of the couple of days, the family told the friend: “you can do whatever you want with him, we don’t want him anymore”. Luckily for Chunky, the friend, who his previous owners chose, was an animal lover… Such an animal lover that she already had 3 dogs and 3 cats so she knew she couldn’t keep Chunky. While she couldn’t keep Chunky, she definitely took great care of him during the time she had him. Chunky arrived to NBBR with all of his shots updated and had already had a complete blood work up. Once in NBBR Chunky again hit a bump in the road, when his foster family that had committed to caring for him decided that commitment was something that they couldn’t keep. So, Chunky packed his bags and settled into yet another new home.
The first word that describes Chunky is resilient. No matter what life throws at him, he continues to be a loving, trusting guy. He has not lost his love for everyone he meets. While he is pretty “low key”, all he wants is to be loved and give all his love in return. The second is chill. He is a very laid back, go with the flow kinda guy. Nothing really gets Chunky too excited (except walks, he LOVES him some walks).
Chunky’s potential family began the process of looking for a new Bulldog after their previous Bulldog passed. As we all know, loosing a family member is a very traumatic event. Even though a family member has a service dog, it just wasn’t the same without the snoring, farting and all the other “things” that go along with being owned by a Bulldog. The family was definitely ready to have all those “things” in their live again. So, they began the process. They had a particular Bulldog in mind, as they had fallen in love with this dog at first sight. We discourage this because due to the fact that there are always others further along in the process that might adopt the Bulldog (and inflict more heartbreak). The family understood this but kept their fingers crossed that the Bulldog they were in love with would be available when they were approved. After being approved and ready for the most important step (the Meet and Greet). It was decided that the family would meet two Bulldogs. As mentioned, not only did we have to factor in the human family members and their connection with the new Bulldog, but also how would the new family member and the service dog interact. Both Meet and Greets went very well, all the canines got along well and both Bulldogs appeared to be a fit for the family. With all that said, there was one small thing that was working in Chunky’s favor- Chunky was THE Bulldog that they had fallen in love with at first sight. And to make things even better Chunky fell in love with them at first sight.
Many ask why the volunteers at NBBR spend so much time to help Bulldogs when there are so many “more important” things that we could be spending our time and energy. While NBBR does primarily focus on the outcomes of the Bulldogs. Rescue is not just about the Bulldogs, just look at the smiles on the humans in the adoption picture. Each Adoption photo isn’t just a “rescued” Bulldog but a “rescued” family. Each family is different and the whys to getting a new family member may be different but the outcome is the same. Each family has opened their homes and hearts to a new family member and will forever be changed. The combination of saving a Bulldog and helping families is why Rescue is so important to each of the volunteers at NBBR. Every adoption photo is a win-win/success story and it is why we do what we do. Congratulations and a BIG thank you are in order for all of our adoptive families but especially for Chunky and his forever family.

9/25/2020 Update:
Chunky continues his daily routine that he loves. He still waits patiently for his new permanent home. In the last few weeks he has gone back for another spa day trying out different places to see which one he likes best. The one thing that doesnât change is the attention he gets by everyone and the showering of compliments. Everyone says how sweet and well mannered he is. He is quite the charmer for sure. It is amazing how well he does in any kind of environment. He is so happy go lucky and care free.
Now that football season has started he is really happy and looks forward to Sunday Funday. He gets a few more /treats that day to enjoy while watching the games. Usually there are a few more people over to shower him with love and he canât get enough of it.
Although he is laid back and chill he still likes to get his daily exercise. He gets his daily walk to the mail box and also his play time after he eats dinner. For some reason this seems to be when he gets a huge burst of energy and is ready to play. Now that the weather is getting a little bit cooler he seems to like spending more time outdoors playing. After he is done with play time he is done and ready for bedtime to dream of when he wakes up and gets breakfast.
9/1/2020 Update:
Chunky has been such a good boy lately so I decided to treat him to a day at the spa. As always anyone who meets him loves him and the groomer was no exception. On his report card she said âChunky was such a good boy for bath and wouldnât stop giving kisses during nailsâ with a heart after the quote.
I can tell he really liked it by the pics I took of him right after he got home. He was so proud and just sat there feeling like a king. I thought his coat was smooth before but now it really shines and smells wonderful. He got his teeth brushed too so even his breathe smells great. I must say I got a good chuckle thinking of the groomer moving his big tongue around to get to all of his teeth.
Chunky continues to be a big loveable boy with love to give anyone who will give him attention. Especially when you give him belly rubs. I am sure he will remind me when his next spa appointment is to keep him looking as handsome as can be.
6/22/2020 Update:
Chunky has been doing really well and made himself quite at home. He has two beds to sleep in one in bedroom at night and one in living room for day knapping. However, since he is a big lover and wants to be by your side all the time he doesnât use either bed much during work hours throughout the week. Instead he has picked his place during the week to sleep in my office right under the desk by my feet.
Since being here I have slowly tested his social skills with other dogs. He has passed all tests with flying colors. He has made best friends with my friendâs rat terrier. The second he comes over they go bonkers and start chasing each other until Chunky gets worn out. I also took him to the local dog park and he met a Lab there which he also made friends with right away.
As far as being around other people he has also done really well. Of course, due to Corona it has not been many people but enough to be able to say he does very well. He just loves everyone he has met and everyone loves him. The youngest kids that have been over are teenagers, but he has been just as loving to them also. I canât speak for younger children but guessing it would be the same.

From Chunky’s Foster Dad:
I picked up Chunky about a week and a half ago and he has been awesome! He is super calm and laid back but does get his bursts of energy daily and becomes super playful. He has tons of toys and his favorites are the Kong (filled with a treat, of course) and a strawberry chew toy.
For his daily routine, he gets up with me in the early morning around 6 a.m. and has breakfast and goes potty. Because it seems to be a bit early for him, he takes his spot on the couch for more sleep. I usually go outside for lunch to play tug of war with him, which he really likes. He also loves playing football in backyard and chasing me back and forth for more exercise. Once it cools down at night I put him on a lease and walk to the mailbox, which he loves. He does really well on a leash so no issues with tugging and pulling. After that itâs his favorite time of the day, which is dinner time. Shortly after that he is ready for his cuddling session with me on the couch until bedtime. He is just an all-around great dog and I have thoroughly enjoyed our time together.

Please welcome Chunky to No Borders Bulldog Rescue. Chunky is a 3 year old male English Bulldog that weighs 71 bs.
Chunky joins the NBBR family as an owner surrender. Chunky’s story isn’t as straight forward as some… yes he was a surrender, but his story is slightly more complicated that the “average” surrender. Chunky’s previous owners asked a friend to watch him for a couple of days while they dealt with family issues. At the end of the couple of days, the family told the friend that she could “do whatever you want with him, we don’t want him anymore”. Luckily for Chunky, the friend who his previous owners chose is an animal lover… Such an animal lover that she already had 3 dogs and 3 cats so she knew she couldn’t keep Chunky. While she couldn’t keep Chunky, she definitely took great care of him during the time she had him. Chunky arrived to NBBR with all of his shots updated and had already had a complete blood work up.
As with all new intakes to NBBR, Chunky’s first stop was the clinic to have Dr. H review his lab results and to do a physical to determine if there was anything additional that Chunky needed. Chunky got a good report. He did have one small issue that we will be monitoring. On Chunky’s bloodwork (chemistry) he had a slightly elevated value for his kidney function. The good news is that there were no signs of crystals or infection. It was decided to put Chunky on a kidney maintenance food and to monitor the situation. Chunky also has a couple of spots on his paws that he received some ointment for and should clear up in no time. Aside from that, Chunky was heartworm negative, all other bloodwork looked great, eyes, ears and skin were all in great shape too.
First we need to address his name, Chunky is not Chunky. He is actually very well proportioned and is a healthy, happy boy. So, this is not a case of body shaming. However in an odd way, the name fits and he likes it. Chunky is a lover boy for sure. It appears that he has never met a stranger. He loves to great everyone he meets. Chunky does have a few quirks: he enjoys a good game of chase the cat (as relayed to us by his friend that saved him), while at his temporarly digs he also had a scuffle with one of the other dogs. This scuffle was instigated by the other dog, BUT in true Bulldog fashion Chunky was not about to be pushed around. It looks like Chunky is a pretty laid back guy–unless you get up in his business and want to start something., then it could be on. Chunky is a very good co-pilot in the car. He settles in nicely and has very good manners (minus an occasional incident of gas passing). Chunky joined his foster family last week and all is going well. All preliminary updates show that Chunky has acclimated well and has claimed the entire house as his personal domain. Chunky has already started the training program for his Foster Dad. This is very important, so that Foster Dad knows exactly how fluffed Chunky’s pillow should be, the proper way to fold his blanket, etc. (As you all know, these are VERY important things that Foster Dad needs to learn IMMEDIATELY). Stay tuned as we learn more about Chunkapotomus and as he begins the next chapter in his life: Finding his forever home.
