8/17/2024 Update:

Brody was ADOPTED!!!!  Mr. B has officially left the building.

Brody joined the NBBR family via way of a local shelter. While he wasn’t a stray, we don’t know a whole lot about him other than he was surrendered to the shelter by his family.   The notes stated that there were multiple dogs involved, but no additional details were noted.  The shelter contacted us and asked if we would be able to help him find a new forever family. This shelter, like many lately, have had a run-on Bulldogs.  We had recently worked with them on another NBBR intake, so they had our information at the ready. We were full BUT Brody needed the help of a dedicated Bulldog Rescue, so we said yes and then figured out the details. Brody’s first hurdle was that he was Heartworm positive.  Many shelters don’t have the resources to treat heartworm positive pups.  This particular shelter has a “foster to adopt” program for Heartworm positive patients.  They allow the dog to leave the shelter with medication and the fosters are instructed to return for additional treatment.   While this program works if everyone does what they are supposed to, our intake coordinator was concerned that many things could go wrong for Brody. We did some juggling to welcome him into the fold.   So, Brody left the shelter having already started the first stage of his heartworm treatment which was then completed while at his foster home.

Brody’s forever family is very familiar with him.  They were actually his foster family.   They didn’t start out as a foster family, instead they applied to adopt.  They had visited our website and found a Bulldog that they thought would be a great fit for them.   Unfortunately, the pup they had their eyes on was in the process of being adopted by another very happy family. So, after a discussion with our Foster Coordinator and some soul searching, they decided that they would foster a Bulldog while they waited for “the one”.  This was great news for us, as we were able to help another Bulldog in need.   Brody’s foster family had no idea what they would get as their foster.   They signed up to foster and agreed to take the next available Bulldog that needed fostering.  When Brody joined NBBR, he was earmarked and went immediately to his new foster family. While there Brody adjusted well to his new surroundings and all the new people/dogs he came in contact.  Fostering is not always sunshine and rainbows and Brody’s story is no exception.  Brody was doing well, and everyone was in love and ready to make his adoption official when an “incident” happened.  Brody’s human sister was playing, and Brody got over excited.  This incident scared his foster family, and they thought that he may not be “the one” for them.   Even through all this, they were committed to making sure that he found the best possible home.   Flash-forward a few days, and our Adoption Coordinator received a text asking if they could adopt Brody after all.  They explained that they had made a rash decision and after thinking about it, discussing with everyone in the family and some serious soul searching they knew in their hearts that Brody was exactly where he belonged.  After discussing this with them further everyone was in agreement that they were indeed the right family for Brody.

Brody hit the jackpot with his new family.  He now has a Mom, Dad, sister (human) and two canine siblings. Life is definitely good for Mr. B and his new family. Congratulations to the entire family.  Thank you for opening your heart and home to a very special little guy and giving him the life that he so deserves.

8/4/2024 Update:

Do y’all have love-hate relationships? 🩵🤺 I’ve realized this past week that I have two. My first love-hate relationship is with nose butter. I love how nose butter makes my nose silky smooth and how I don’t have dry, cracked nose. But boy do I hate getting it put on! I hold still, but I do not like it one bit. 😰 I wrinkle my face and huff when it’s applied. 😮‍💨
Secondly, massages. 💆 Foster mom introduced me to a human head massager. Once I realized it wasn’t scary and not very loud, I allowed her to use it on my head, shoulders and chest. Boy, I LOVE how relaxed it makes me feel. But I HATE when she stops using it. 🥺 I want massages all day, every day, no stopping!!! Massages for life! 🙌👏🙌
While I have love-hate relationships with both nose butter and massages, I feel strongly that all of my bulldog friends should have these items in their daily arsenal to love (or love-hate) for themselves. We all deserve this pampering. 💯
Until next time, y’all!
Your friend,
Brody

7/28/2024 Update:

Looking for love…..and toys!

Hello, future furever family. Your boy, Brody, here. 😎I just wanted to let you know I’ve been thriving with my foster family! I love easily digestible chews, squeaky toys, and if you watch me closely, a big bone. Chewing on toys and treats is so calming and satisfying.
I play well with the other dogs, though I have no experience with small dogs, just larger breeds. I’m a bulldog through and through and prefer to wrestle other canines and bull them over versus running around. This awesome bully physique was not made for cardio. 😏😉 I enjoy playing with humans too, but I don’t quite know how big and strong I am, so I prefer play with adults who aren’t knocked down if I shoulder check them while we play. Younger humans are quite fragile and I worry I might accidentally harm them when I excitedly play around.
If you’re reading this and you know who my furever family is, will you please tell them I’m ready to come home? And don’t forget to pick up some toys before coming to get me!
Hoping to see you soon, furever fam!

7/15/2024 Update:

Hey y’all, Brody here. Gratitude is the word of the day. 🙏 Firstly, I’d like to say thank you to my foster sister, Miss Queen Bee herself (the old lady bulldog), for finally taking me under wing and showing me things that have blown me away. Like, did y’all know about sunbathing??? Queen Bee showed me the best spot on the back patio to catch the morning sun for a few minutes before heading inside to lay on the cool concrete. This is absolute nirvana. I am so very grateful to my foster sis for sharing this and other wonderful secrets with me!

Secondly, can I just share how entirely thankful I am for

No Borders Bulldog Rescue? I signed an NDA before joining the NBBR family, so I cannot discuss what may or may not have happened to me previously (or, I’m a dog and you humans just can’t seem to understand me when I talk )🥸🤔🤫, but foster mom has noticed I have something called triggers and she guesses that I may have been through some previous trauma.
When foster mom first brought me home, she noticed that I jumped when touched while eating and flinched away at sharp, loud noises near me like clapping or stomping feet. When I heard a raised voice, like someone cheering for a sports team or young kids screaming while playing, I would cower and hide. Foster mom and small human foster sister have been working with me the past few months to help me feel safe, well-fed, understood, accepted, and LOVED and now I am almost never triggered, y’all!! Whoohoo! 🥳🥳
I seriously really want to thank NBBR for finding me and providing the most amazing foster family to help me overcome my trauma and learn about living the good life. Without the NBBR volunteers and foster families, I may never have learned how wonderful life can be, especially heartworm-free!!!!
Thank you most sincerely, No Borders Bulldog Rescue! Keep doing what you do.
💙Brody

7/4/2024 Update:

Happy Independence Day, friends! 🎆🎇

I’ll be relaxing quietly indoors this evening away from those loud booms with my foster family. I hope all of my canine friends have a nice place to enjoy the holiday as well.
❤️🤍💙 Brody

6/16/2024 Update:

Hello Brody friends! My little hooman foster sister likes to play a game called hide-and-seek with foster mom and dad. The little hooman and foster dad are really good at the game, but foster mom is terrible at it!
I don’t know why but foster mom never finds a good place to hide. I always follow her around, no matter where she goes, so I can tell you she’s so embarrassed of her poor hiding spots she doesn’t want me to see her while she tries to hide! She’s always telling me “shoo Brody, you’re giving me away, sweet boy!” I’m not sure what Foster mom means, but I wouldn’t give her away to anybody; She’s awesome, which is why I follow her around everywhere!
My little hooman foster sister and foster dad always find mom right away and say “Thanks, Bro!” 🙌 so they must be proud of how well I play the game too! I bet no one will guess mom is in the pantry behind me. 👀 I’ll just tell them “move along, nothing to see here.” I know foster mom will appreciate my help. 😎😎😎
Also shout out to my awesome foster dad, and all other types of dads out there. Happy Father’s Day to all the many kinds of fathers! I appreciate you.
Much love,
Brody

6/9/2024 Update:

Hey y’all! I’m here to tell you that your favorite Brody is a lover, not a fighter….except when it comes to heartworms! 🪱I’m happy to say I’ve fully finished my heartworm treatment and only have a couple more weeks to wait for a final heartworm test. If my test results are negative, I’ll have successfully beaten those terrible buggers: Bam! POW!💥Kicked ’em to the curb!💥

Foster life continues to treat me well. Though I continue to be an enthusiastic eater, I’ve learned to take treats from foster mom slower when she says “gentle”. 🦴🦴🦴 Foster mom is even letting the tiny hooman foster sister occasionally give me treats since I’ve learned to be less snappy.
Speaking of foster sisters, my daily routine consists of napping 80% of the day near wherever foster mom is located, 15% of the day enjoying a good, hard chew toy or treat, and 5% playing silly games with my boxer mix foster sister. She and I love jumping around the living areas chasing each other. AND sometimes Madame Queen Bee herself (the old lady bulldog) joins us! I can’t believe the old lady has finally deigned me worthy enough of her short playtimes. I think this says incredible things about my character. 😎😌😏
At heart though, I’m just a sweet lover boy. Playtime is exciting, but I’d rather be caught up in cuddles. 💙🩵🤍 Two of my favorite cuddles are putting my front legs around foster mom in an eternal hug while she lounges, and secretly holding my foster sister’s tail while she sleeps (don’t you dare tell her!). ❌💢
Friends, I know my forever family will love cuddling as much as I do. It’s written in the stars. I hope y’all discover what activities you love best so you can find the best forever family too!
Until next time….
Brody 💙🐾💙🐾

6/2/2024 Update:

Friends, I know I’ll never want for anything again in life because I have perfected the “hopeful Brody stare”, and so far no one is immune to my gaze. One look at foster mom, and she’s tripping over herself to bring me treats and shower me with pets and more pets. The little human foster sister ooos and ahhhs over my soulful look. Guests in the house rush to cuddle me and tell me what a sweet boy I am.

I encourage all of my bulldog pals to practice your hopeful stare too! The humans cannot resist us, friends! Share your best stare!

5/27/2024 Update:

Hello friends 👋🐾; Brody here. Over this holiday weekend, I pondered whether my forever family might find me soon. Is it you? Is your heart big enough for a sweet Brody like me? I just want to be wanted and loved. 🥺🥺
I’ve learned how to play well with the other foster canines, as well as a very big German Shepherd lady who visits occasionally. I don’t know what a cat is, but I ignore the bunnies, squirrels, and road runners in my foster family’s yard, so I’d probably ignore cats too. I’m not an active boy. I’d be happy to sleep near a human companion who has to sit around to work from home for many hours, or maybe someone retired who naps a lot. I just LOVE naps. I don’t have a particularly loud bark. My foster parents tell me I’m an exceptional boy because I no longer bark through their meals. I just copy my foster sisters and lay quietly on the floor nearby while the humans eat. Foster mom says for a distinguished adult like me, I sure have mastered a lot of new things very quickly. Don’t I sound just paw-fect??
I dearly wish my forever family would find me. A chill guy like me deserves a a forever home to call his own, don’t you agree?
Looking for Love,
Brody 💚🐾💚🐾

5/20/2024 Update:

Hello friends and hello summer! Brody here. 😎

Do you know what I look forward to most about summer? No more spring thunderstorms. I don’t know about you, but those storms frighten me! My foster sisters like to run outside during the storms and threaten the thunder with their barking, but I prefer to stay in the house cuddled with my favorite human, thank you very much. Oh! And did I mention walking in the wet grass to do my business post-storm is awful? 🥵 I abhor that! I’d rather do my business in the house than get my feet wet outside. I may be slobbery at times, but I prefer my feet to stay clean and dry! Wet grass is the worst.
Speaking of summer, with the temperatures rising I’ve figured out how to beat the heat! I do my business outside quickly, run into the house, then splay on the cool concrete floor. What a nice cool feeling on my tummy! 😏 I hope all of my bulldog buddies have cool floors in their homes too. Nothing beats a nice chilled home during the hot summer months. Until next time friends, stay cool! 🆒
Brody 🙌😎🐾🦴

5/6/2024 Update:

Hello adoring fans and Brody followers! It’s been one very productive week for the Brominator. I’ve been updating my Brody résumé this week so I can impress my forever family. 🔖✔️

New skills I’ve added to my repertoire:
1. Recognizing and responding to the words “Sit”, “Come”, “Stop”, and “Down”.
2. Letting my foster family eat whole meals without me barking through them (though I still don’t understand why they do not want to hear me praise their delicious smelling food throughout their meal🤔). 🥘
AND
3. Learning be more gentle while playing with my canine foster siblings.
I’m pretty sure my foster sisters make fun of my new gentle play style and call me goofy looking when I’m playing. But the Brodmister cares NOT because foster mom says I’m perfect no matter how goofy I am! I embrace my inner-goofiness, as should we all!
In medical news, I had my last round of heartworm treatment this week. Now 60 days of living the dream, then one final heartworm test. I’ve been such a good boy, following the good doc’s instructions, I have no doubt I’ll have kicked those heartworms and the test will come back negative. But just in case, feel free to send your good health vibes my way. ⚕️❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹
Until next week, friends.
Brody 🐾🩵🐾🩵

4/28/2024 Update:

I, Brody – Brominator, Brodster -, have decided I do not want to be an only dog. I love my foster sibs and can be found wherever they are (which *coincidentally* is wherever foster mom is). Pack life is the life for me. 🐕🦮🐩🐕‍🦺🐾

4/21/2024 Update:

Hello again, adoring fans! Brody here. 🙌😎

I don’t know about the rest of you, but I have two modes: Chill Dude and Turbo-Brody mode. Most of the time, I like to nap and cuddle and lay with my favorite peeps, but when I get excited, WATCH OUT! 🗣️🗣️🗣️  I sometimes get overly enthusiastic when my foster family returns home. I jump on them and bark like a manic boy band fan. Luckily, my foster family knows how to keep me calm, which is especially important right now while I am undergoing my heartworm treatment.

I also get really worked up when I want to play with the other dogs in the house. I have playful puppy energy, but I don’t know how to use it. 🤷‍♂️ When I see the other dogs playing with each other, I rush to join, but rather than playing gentlemanly like the other dogs, I’m like a bull in a china shop, knocking everyone over and busting up the fun. Is possible I have never lived with canine companions. 🤔 I imagine in my previous life I was a handsome, lonely, swashbuckling hero, living a life of solitude. 🦸‍♂️🧐
But never fear, friends! I listen well when I’m asked to stop what I’m doing and I back off quickly. Also, foster mom figured out my ‘sleep mode’ button 💤📴 and engages it when I need immediate calming. She rolls me over onto my back and starts rubbing my chest and I instantly turn into putty. I just LOVE nonstop pets. If you could Velcro me to your chest and walk around all day giving me incessant chest and stomach rubs, I’d be in nirvana.
In an effort to better control my Turbo-Brody mode, this week I’ve started doing Brody-yoga, or Broga, as I like to call it. I’ve been practicing my Broga poses to perfection. Here are a few of my favorites:
1. Eat Mine Treat
2. Cuddle Buddy
3. The Brody Splay
4. Caped Crusader
5. Enthused Begging
6. King of the World
I can’t wait to show off some of my Broga poses in person at the next NBBR event! Until then, friends… 🤍🩶🩵💙🖤

4/8/2024 Update:

Happy Solar Eclipse Day, y’all! Brody here. It’s been a busy week, my friends. Firstly, guess who mastered using the dog door? *This* guy! 🙌 It’s pretty awesome knowing I have the power to go outside when I need. Occasionally I look out the door just to see what’s happening outside, but mostly I go out to do my business and then come right back in. Why? Because inside living is where it’s at. 😎 I’m an inside kind of guy! I’m a couch potato at his finest.

In medical news, I visited the doc last week and got an injection for my heartworms. ❤️‍🩹 Things went well. I learned two things from this visit. Firstly, seeing my foster family pick me up after an overnight stay with the vet had me bursting with joy. I’ve moved around a bit, seeing numerous people these last few weeks. It was VERY exciting knowing I was returning with my foster family to their home after my injection. I’m a family guy. I want my people, and my people want me, whomever they are; I just know it! I couldn’t sit still the whole way back to my foster home. I kept climbing onto foster mom’s lap while she drove, giving her kisses. She reminded me to sit safely until we returned home, then she showered me with the lovin’ I deserve.

Secondly, I’ve developed a new infatuation. The good doc told me I have to keep my energy low while the medication is doing its thing. I’ve been minding the doc by chilling bunches and in doing so, I’ve discovered PILLOWS! That’s right, friends, pillows. All pillows. Couch pillows, floor pillows, fluffy dog beds, throw pillows (although, that one confuses me….why would you throw a pillow?). Give me a pillow and let me get my cuddle on.

All in all, friends, I’m thriving. My appetite is healthy. I love cuddles and hugs. I’m friendly with my canine foster sisters. I ADORE people. I’m the perfect little man. Ok, ok, the perfect little man whom foster mom and dad say needs to learn a few table manners. I swear I can’t help myself though! Foster dad is one of the executive chefs or something and his food smells DIVINE. I don’t thinks it’s fair I’m excluded from the humans’ meals, so it’s *possible* I bark when they sit down to a meal. Every time. I’m just giving my compliments to the chef, obviously. My kibble and snacks are super tasty, but I want that human food!

Hmmmm. Maybe I should work on better table manners like my foster sisters. 🤔 It might be worth my while! 💡That will be my focus for this next week. My furever family might be blown away by a well mannered boy like that. I’ll just send those good, well-mannered Brody vibes out into the universe.

Until next time…..

😎💚 Brody

3/26/2024 Update:

Hey all, Brody here! I am so very thankful NBBR was able to find me a foster home because life is GOOD here with my foster family. I’ve taken the week to settle in and find my place in the middle of the pack with my two canine foster sisters (and one human foster sister!). I’m a pretty chill dude, so I’m happy to let the old lady bulldog remain queen bee in the house.😎 I’m mostly here for the cuddles anyway. I could spend hours getting pets and belly rubs. If I feel I’m not getting enough snuggle attention, I’ll strut over, plop my head in your lap, and stare at you wide eyed until you cannot resist lovin’ on me.

It’s pretty cool living with a bunch of ladies. Foster dad and I are the only boys in the house, so I spent my first two days in my foster home thoroughly marking every tree in the back yard so everyone knows there’s a new man in town! I haven’t quite figured out how to use the dog door to the back yard, but foster mom thinks I’ll get it soon. If the door is swinging, I have no problem walking through, but if it’s still, I’m pretty sure it’s a window and I’m not supposed to touch it. What can I say? I have good manners. I don’t want to scratch the “window”. But I’m a determined boy, and I’ll figure that doggy door situation out soon. And I definitely enjoy those little treats I get when I figure out how to do something the preferred way. 🤩🤩🤤

I’m going to spend this next week working on my understanding of basic commands. Foster mom doesn’t think I’ve been trained previously. While I walk on a leash pretty well, I don’t quite understand “sit”, “come”, and so forth. I think I’ll pick those commands up pretty quickly because my foster sisters know what to do and I’ve started copying them when foster mom or dad ask us to do something. Like I said, I like treats, so I’m happy to learn! ☺️

3/15/2024 Update:

Please welcome Brody to No Borders Bulldog Rescue.  Brody is a 6-year-old male English Bulldog that weighs 55 lbs.

Brody joins the NBBR family via way of a local shelter. While he wasn’t a stray, we don’t know a whole lot about him other than he was surrendered to the shelter by his family.   The notes stated that there were multiple dogs involved, but no additional details were noted.  The shelter contacted us and asked if we would be able to help him find a new forever family. This shelter (like many lately have had a run-on Bulldogs.  We had recently worked with them on another NBBR intake, so they had our information at the ready.   We were full BUT Brody needed the help of a dedicated Bulldog Rescue, so we said yes and then figured out the details.

Brody’s first hurdle is that he is Heartworm positive.  Many shelters don’t have the resources to treat heartworm positive pups.  This particular shelter has a “foster to adopt” program for Heartworm positive patients.  They allow the dog to leave the shelter with medication and the fosters are instructed to return for additional treatment.   While this program will work if everyone does what they are supposed to, our intake coordinator was concerned that many things could go wrong for Brody, and we did some juggling to welcome him into the fold.   So, Brody left the shelter having already started the first stage of his heartworm treatment.   We will continue that medication and prepare him for the next stage of the treatment.

The first thing you notice about Brody is that he is a complete flirt.  When he met our volunteer at the shelter, he came sprinting/lumbering right up to him to introduce himself.  Afterall, Bulldogs that are Brody’s age don’t typically sprint anywhere, but he does move well and has quite a “pep in his step”.  After introducing himself, he quickly flopped over on his back to get in a quick belly rub.  Once Brody decided that his belly had been sufficiently rubbed, it was time to load up and head out.  While enroute to the clinic to get a complete physical exam he did his very best to worm his head into our volunteer’s lap so that he could be as close as caninely possible. Other than the Heartworm diagnosis, Brody got a clean bill of health and released to join his foster family.

While meeting his new foster family he did the same routine that he did when he met our volunteer.  A quick introduction followed by flopping over on this back to get his belly rubbed.  All reports from his foster family have been glowing.   Brody walks well on a leash.   He takes his medications like a champ.  The shelter staff alerted us that he liked his meds wrapped in Vienna Sausages or cheese.   Brody’s foster family is taking the slow approach to introducing him to his foster siblings but so far Brody has been nothing but pleasant. Currently, Mr. B is doing some chilling and decompressing.  He has had a stressful couple of weeks.  Brody is a true example of how resilient dogs can be if given a little time and some TLC. Stay tuned for updates on Brody as his foster family learns more about him and what makes him tick.   This valuable information will help us help Brody determine what his best forever home looks like.
