11/4/2018 Update:  Foster Dad got Frank his very own bed this week and boy does he love it! When it’s bedtime Frank puts himself in his bed without a fuss. He stays put all night til it’s time for breakfast in the morning. We’ve even caught him a few times this week wander upstairs by himself only to find him napping in bed.

10/29/2018 Update:  Frank is loving this fall weather. He loves playing outside and hanging out on the balcony watching people pass by. He’s extremely curious and has to investigate everything we are doing. His other hobbies include eating, wresting his foster siblings and chewing Benebones. He hates vacuums, brooms and mops so we have to sneak the cleaning in while he’s napping. Frank has been on antibiotics for his infected anal glands so we will head back to the vet soon for a follow up. Praying for some good news!

10/15/2018 Update:  Frank has made progess on his leash training this week. He’s always willing to go outside for a walk, except when it’s raining. He’s scared of the rain and thunder and refuses to go out to potty. Otherwise, he never leaves my side and follows me around the house like a shadow. His spunky personality is starting show and he has started play wresting with his foster siblings. We’re looking forward to the upcoming rescue events so that people can meet this sweet boy.

10/8/2018 Update:  Frank is settling in just fine in his new foster home. He is getting along great with his Bulldog foster brother and sister, as well as all of the dogs in our complex. He has tons of energy and likes chasing the other dogs around. Frank loves belly rubs and snuggles. He needs a little more training on the leash but we are confident he will have it down in no time

9/10/2018 Update:

Frank is officially heart worm free and came through the surgeries to neuter him and remove the cherries from his eyes with flying colors! He was running around the house and begging to go outside and play the very next day … until he saw the rain. Poor baby does NOT like the rain at all.

He has the beginnings of an ear infection and also has an infection on his paw from chewing on it too much. He really hates the ear wash and ointment for his paw but both areas are already looking better after just a couple of days of medicine.

9/1/5/2018 Update:

Frank goes in this Friday to see if he is heartworm free *fingers crossed* If he is, the vet will do surgery that day to neuter him and to remove the cherries from both of his eyes. Send lots of good thoughts his way!

8/27/2018 Update

Mr. Frank is feeling better & better every day!

We went in for his 30 day heartworm check up a while back and found out that the poor guy had a UTI and another type of worms. He’s finished his medicine for both issues.

We’re going in to the vet again in early September to verify that he has a clean bill of health on the heartworm front. Once he does, we can schedule the surgery to have him neutered and to fix the cherries in his eyes.

Frank really loves to be outside … especially someplace with room to run around. He definitely needs a forever home with a yard. He has a great time playing fetch … as long as you don’t take the toy away from him before he is ready … and is happy to cuddle and nap on your foot afterwards.

He doesn’t do so well when you play tug-of-war. He can get aggressive and it carries over after the game is done. Hopefully, dominance issues will ease after he gets fixed.

7/17/2018 Update:

Frank is doing great. We’ve learned that he is afraid of thunder. If he hears a rumble, he hightails it for home and won’t come back outside!

His potty training and leash training are moving along slowly but we are definitely making progress. We haven’t had any chewing problems around the house with him but we’ve also given him lots of chewies of his very own to chomp on when he has the urge.

He is very food focused and we have to keep a close eye on him when he thinks we have something to eat. He tends to lunge for it if he thinks you aren’t watching.

He is such a sweet boy who is always eager to meet new people. When we’re outside, he wants everybody to stop and pet him. When we are inside, he wants to be in constant contact with his person. He’ll curl up on my feet to sleep when I can’t pet him.

7/2/2018 Update:

Frank is a very happy boy who wants to romp and play so badly. Unfortunately, he’s going to have to rest for the next 30 days due to his heartworm treatment.

He loves to dive in for cuddles and pets any chance he gets. What a sweetheart!

We are working on potty training and leash manners.

7/1/2018 UpdatePlease welcome Frank to the No Borders Bulldog Rescue family. Frank is a 4 year old male English Bulldog that weighs 46 lbs.

Frank joins the NBBR family as a stray.  Frank was seen running the streets in a south Texas town for several days. After several attempts to catch him were unsuccessful, he finally decided he would allow a neighbor to get close to him.  The neighbor was able to give him some water and food.  The family was able to corral Frank but did not want to keep him and they contacted a friend who works with a local Rescue to see what could be done to help Frank.  Frank immediately took to the friend and it was decided she would take Frank home while everyone tried to find his family.   The first step was to take Frank to be scanned for a micro-chip (none was found).  The second was to post “lost dog” signs in the area, on local social media sites and contact the shelter.  Frank’s guardian angel kept him safe, fed him and took great care of him.  After many people spending numerous hours trying to find his family, it started to look like Frank did not have a family looking for him.  Frank’s guardian angels already had a dog and knew they couldn’t keep him, but wanted a breed specific rescue to help find him a suitable forever home and called NBBR asking for help.

Like all the Bulldogs joining NBBR, Frank’s first stop was to the clinic to get a complete checkup. One thing immediately noticeable about Frank is his weight – he is very skinny and will need to gain some much needed weight.  Frank also has skin infections and a case of double cherry eye.  And, sadly, Frank is also Heartworm positive.

Treating Frank for Heartworms is the priority for his health care plan.  While he does need to have his cherry eye fixed AND needs to be neutered, it is most important to get his heart in the best shape we can before we put him under anesthesia.   So, Frank started his first round of Heartworm treatment immediately. This will require 30 days of crate rest combined with a steroid treatment and antibiotics.  After 30 days, Frank will then have a second Heartworm treatment followed by another 30 days of crate rest, steroids and antibiotics.  Once he tests negative we will schedule a surgery date to address his cherry eye and his needed neutering. Until then, we will be administering eye drops to help with the cherry eye.

Frank is definitely a lover boy.  While being transported to the clinic he wanted to not only be close to his transporter, he would have been happiest if he could have been on his lap.  Frank was also a staff favorite while he was at the clinic.  Frank joined his foster family yesterday and is doing well.  Frank is very curious about his surroundings (dare we say nosey?) and wants to check everything out before settling in.  Stay tuned for updates as we learn more about Frank and what his ideal family will look like.   Until then Frank will be spending the dog days of Summer and the Texas heat chillaxin and focusing on getting stronger every day.
