Surrendering a Bulldog:
No Borders Bulldog Rescue understands that surrendering your dog is a very difficult decision. Perhaps your dog is a new addition to the family and you don’t have the time to properly care for him/her. Your dog may have been a part of your life for many years, but circumstances have changed and now owning a dog is no longer a viable option for you. Changing financial obligations and/or medical concerns may result in the inability to care for your dog . Surrendering your dog to NBBR, another rescue group or animal shelter is an incredibly difficult decision, but in some instances it is the best one to make.
Before surrendering your dog, you should ask yourself a few questions:
* Do I have the time, energy and resources to provide adequate care to the dog?
* Does my schedule permit me to spend quality time with my dog every single day?
* Is my dog not behaving well because I don’t have or want to spend time on basic behavior training?
* Do I have young children and don’t have the time or desire to show them proper dog handling techniques?
* Has my health changed and because of it, I am not able to walk or socialize my dog?
These are just a few of the things to consider when making the difficult decision to surrender your dog. If you realize that your dog would be better cared for in a rescue foster home and eventually with a new owner, perhaps the time has come to surrender your dog.
If you choose to surrender your dog to NBBR you will be asked to complete a surrender contract. This legally binding contract transfers full ownership of the dog to NBBR. This allows us to provide veterinary care and, down the road, legally adopt the dog to a carefully pre-screened and approved ‘forever’ home.
NBBR will take full legal and ethical ownership and responsibility for your dog. All of our rescue dogs are vetted, micro-chipped, neutered/spayed, vaccinated (as necessary) and receive heartworm prevention before being placed for adoption.
Donations at time of surrender are appreciated, but not mandatory, as veterinary costs for rescue dogs can sometimes be expensive. Additionally, please provide as many of your pets belongings as possible, including bed, leash, harness, toys and a supply of food to make the transition to foster care an easier one. Finally, copies of vet records are always helpful to allow us and the adoptive home to make necessary and important decisions regarding the dog’s future care.
