12/27/2021 Update:

Milhouse has been ADOPTED!!!!  Can you say Ho, Ho, Happy Holidays?

Milhouse joined the NBBR family as an owner surrender.  Like many other pups that find their way to Rescue, Milhouse’s family “didn’t have time for him”.   Things had changed in their lives, and they had taken on additional commitments but decided that they were unable to keep the commitment they made to Milhouse.   So, they contacted NBBR and asked if we would take him. Like all the intakes to NBBR, Milhouse’s first stop was the clinic for a checkup.  Milhouse arrived and it was determined that he had a UTI and crystals in his urine.  He also had a prolapsed urethra.  Milhouse has had a previous surgery for a prolapsed urethra, but our vet thought that the extra stress and strain caused by the UTI/crystals had caused his urethra to prolapse again.  While we were told by the surrendering family that their vet said, “there is nothing that can be done”, we disagreed. The first step was to minimize blood loss and to begin a course of antibiotics, pain medication and medication to keep him as calm as possible.  Our clinic staff wanted to eliminate the bacteria before doing the surgery to correct the prolapse.  Doing the surgery before the UTI is addressed could expose Milhouse to an unwanted infection and delay his recovery. This was the plan as long as the prolapse stayed small and manageable, but IF things change Milhouse’s medical care may change.  Being the big, strapping boy that he is, a UTI and prolapsed urethra were no match for Milhouse.  He came through both with flying colors.  For the last several months he has been chillin’ with his foster family and hoping for his forever family.

While we all at NBBR want all of our fosters to be adopted as quickly as possible, sometimes that isn’t the case.  While puppies are no problem, as applications come from EVERYWHERE. But for many of our other fosters they get labeled as “too dogs”.   This means that when applicants see them, we hear they are too old, too small, too short, too this or too that.  Unfortunately, Milhouse was one of our “too dogs”.  The first reason was because he wasn’t a typical English Bulldog, he didn’t have the “cute, smooshed face”.  The second most common reason was his size… Milhouse is a BIG boy.  When Milhouse’s new forever family started the adoption process they wanted an “English Bulldog”.  However, they kept an opened mind throughout the process.  During the interview process, it was discovered that they had previously had a Mastiff and really liked “big dogs”.  When our match maker volunteer heard this, his first thought was: Milhouse, but he filed this away for later.   After the adoption approval process was completed and it was determined that the family would be a good fit for a Bulldog, the work started.   The family was given their homework: to read the profiles of each available dog and determine who they thought would be a good fit.   This particular search had two distinct requirements.   First, Milhouse’s new human brother wanted a buddy.  A buddy that he could run, play, and be a boy with.  He also wanted his buddy to be a snuggler when it was quiet time.  AND on top of all this, he wanted his buddy to be cute (we had this covered because ALL of our fosters are beyond cute.)  While Milhouse’s brother had a list so did his new parents, they were focused on personality.  They wanted a new family member that was energetic to keep up with their son, but not so energetic that he would be a lunatic.  That is A LOT of boxes to check.  After the entire family read all of the profiles of the available fosters and had a family meeting to come to a consensus, they called and asked if they we thought Milhouse would be a fit AND if so, could they schedule a Meet and Greet? Well, the rest as they say is history. The day after Christmas a Meet and Greet was scheduled and everyone’s fingers were crossed that what looked good on paper, would be equally great in person. Even before the Meet and Greet was over it was apparent that Milhouse was “the one”.  Even though he is almost the same size as his new brother and could possibly drag him down the street if he wanted.  Even though he was a bundle of energy (what can we say, it was a big moment for him AND he was excited), the family stated “we don’t think we could have found a more perfect fit”.  So, the next day Milhouse and his family made it official.  Once all the paperwork was completed, they loaded Milhouse and their Christmas presents (they are not from the DFW area) and headed home.  Mihouse’s adoption is a two-fer for sure.   Not only did a “too dog” got adopted but Milhouse and his family received the greatest Holiday gift EVER-the gift of each other and love.  Congratulations to the entire family. Thank you for opening your home and hearts to a big loveable dog that was “too” for most but perfect for you.

9/12/2021 Update:

Hello everybody,
I had a really great week, as always, I am a gentleman. FM and FD had visitors and I was the host with the most. Got along great with FM and FD’s great nephew.  I did something really exciting today… we went to White Rock Dog Park.  I did a lot of sniffing in various places and played with lots of other dogs.   We didn’t get to stay too long as it started getting hot. Man, do I love riding in the truck, and again as always, I am a gentleman, but I do pass gas sometimes, but hey that’s what windows are for! Until next week, Milhouse out.

9/6/2021 Update:

Hello from the farm….
Milhouse here aka Big Boy from my foster’s farm/ranch.  Dog, I have gotten over all my illnesses thanks to On the Borders treatment via the Vet.  Been hanging out with the foster family and cows and horses. I gots to ride around in the Kobata over the weekend as well as meeting new Foster Family members and their pets. If you’re looking for a family member that can fit in and is house trained and well-mannered as well as a good listener, I ‘m your dog.  Just ask my Foster Family who I love. So, get me before someone else does, Milhouse out.

8/16/2021 Update:

Big Boy here, enjoying my fosters parents. I have 2 new friends that I get along with very well, Molley Mae and Ray.  I love my new home, and I sleep right by my fosters at night by the bed. I haven’t mastered the doggie door yet, but when I go and stand by it I get let out.  I don’t go in the house, only outside.  Been eating well and get along with all my fosters friends and neighbors.  Going to have surgery this week and can’t wait to get my walks and play again chasing my ball.  So, someone out there, if you want a big laidback well-mannered new family member, I’m the one.  Until next week, wear your masks! Aka- Milhouse.

8/5/2021 Update:

Please welcome Milhouse to No Borders Bulldog Rescue.  Milhouse is a 4-year-old, male Olde English Bulldog that weighs 87 lbs.

Milhouse joins the NBBR family as an owner surrender.

He also has a prolapsed urethra.  Milhouse has had a previous surgery for a prolapsed urethra, but our vet thinks that the extra stress and strain caused by the UTI/crystals has caused his urethra to prolapse again.  While were told by the surrendering family that their vet said, “there is nothing that can be done”, we disagree.   The first step is to minimize blood loss and to begin a course of antibiotics, pain medication and medication to keep him as calm as possible.  Our clinic staff want to eliminate the bacteria before we do the surgery to correct the prolapse.  Doing the surgery before the UTI is addressed could expose Milhouse to an unwanted infection and delay his recovery. This is the plan as long as the prolapse stays small and manageable, but IF things change Milhouse’s medical care may change.  (Please keep Milhouse in your thoughts and prayers that things stay as they are, and his treatment goes as hoped).

Heath issues aside, Milhouse is a bundle of happy energy.  He appears to lover everyone and everything he meets.   He does occasionally get over-excited on his first meeting and will excited pee.   (Some of this could be due to his health issues mentioned above).   Milhouse joined his foster family yesterday and from all reports, everything is going well.  Stay tuned for future updates as we learn more about Mr. M and his journey to health and finding his forever home.
