6/26/2017 Update: RIP Watson – It’s with the heaviest heart that we announce that Watson crossed the Rainbow Bridge early this morning. Watson was subjected to neglect for what appears to be many years. The final straw was when his previous owners dumped him at a shelter to die alone. We rescued him and did everything we could to bring him as soon as possible to our vet clinic for emergency medical treatment. Watson spent his last days being cared for and knowing the love he should have known his entire life. While our goal in rescue is to save them all, it was just too late for Watson. His infections had progressed to the point he could not recover. Even though Watson had shown signs of an appetite, he started hemorrhaging internally and nothing could be done to save him. We know there is a special place over the Rainbow Bridge for all the abused and neglected animals like Watson where they run free of pain. Watson had touched many hearts in such a short period of time from the all the volunteers who helped with his transport to the staff at the clinic. This is a tragic loss but we need to carry on our mission to rescue those voiceless souls… and even if today we are sad, we know that Watson is watching over us. We thank you for your continuous support of our Rescue as we couldn’t do it without you.
6/24/2017 Update: Please welcome Watson to the No Borders Bulldog Rescue family. Watson is a 5 year old Olde English Bulldog that weighs 33 lbs.
Watson joined the NBBR family yesterday. After many months, possibly years of neglect, Watson was dumped at a shelter by his previous owner. Watson used to have another name but due to the neglect he suffered, we wanted to give him a fresh start. When Watson was dumped by his previous owners, the shelter staff new that he was VERY sick. He was having difficulty breathing and they were not sure he would make it. It turned out that his breathing was due to the fact that he had been living outside in the heat and that when his owners surrendered him, he was forced to ride in the back of the truck. Once his breathing was stabilized the shelter staff knew he would need a Rescue and they contacted NBBR. Watson was located in a shelter 7.5 hours away from us. So, the coordination to get him to Dallas was immediately begun. It took four legs in total to get that mission accomplished but once again our volunteers stepped up and Watson made it to Dallas.
Once Watson arrived in Dallas, he went immediately to the clinic. The clinic staff had been alerted that Watson was in REALLY bad shape, so the clinic staff stayed late so they could evaluate him. It was determined that Watson is both Heartworm and Ehrlicia. SEVERELY malnourished and anemic. Heartworm is an infection caused by mosquitoes, while Ehrlicia is an infection caused by ticks. Both infection cause lethargy, weakness and other symptoms. Watson is VERY skinny and is having difficulty standing and walking due to being so weak. Watson is in great hands and the clinic staff will be running the necessary labs to determine exactly how to proceed with his treatment. He has already started antibiotics to battle the Ehrlicia. The Heartworm treatment will be next, but we need to ensure that he is strong enough to begin that treatment. We will know more when the labs results have been received. The good news is that Watson is a fighter, he wants to eat and has made some progress in the two days since he was surrendered to the shelter.
It is difficult to determine exactly what Watson’s personality will be, but he appears to be very loving and an easy going guy. He has been through a very stressful situation in the last several days, but was friendly even though it was apparent that he was scared. Watson has a LONG road to recovery and is not out of the woods yet. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers as this little guy works to heal.
