10/17/2016 Update:

Gordo was ADOPTED!!! It is with great pleasure that we announce that Mr. Gordo has found his forever home.  Gordo’s new family has been approved for several months, however when they would inquire about a particular dog to adopt, that dog was already being adopted by another family. So, after two such occurrences, the family decided to “take a break and wait”. Well, after waiting a couple of months, it didn’t take long when Gordo was posted on the website as available for the family to give us a call (20 minutes to be exact) to say “We think Gordo is the one”.

Gordo’s new Mom and Dad drove from Austin yesterday to meet Gordo and see how he would interact with them. It was love at first sight all around. It was apparent that Gordo immediately felt comfortable and had found his new parents. After some playtime in the pumpkin patch and learning more about his great personality, it was a done deal. Gordo hopped into their truck, settled into his new mom’s lap and he was off to his new home. Congratulations to Gordo and the entire family.

10/5/2016 Update: Gordo here. It’s been a week since I had 3 surgeries which was also the same day I met my new foster parents. My foster mom calls me a tough guy because I showed no signs of having surgery. She also calls me a firecracker because I’m always on at all times. All I want to do is play with my foster sisters all day, run around the house and go for long walks and we can’t forget my stomach rubs which is by far my favorite. That’s right you have no say, MY STOMACH MUST BE RUBBED. I’ve also been working on my manners. I like to knibble on fingers and jump on people but I’m getting better about it. My foster mom told me she likes the finger knibbling but she prefer I knibble on my toys for now. I also was recently introduced to my foster fur brother Flash and boy did we hit it off. I’d like to say we’re besties already. Yours truly, Gordo aka Stud

9/29/2016 Update: Please welcome Gordo to the No Borders Bulldog Rescue family.  Gordo is a 14 month old English Bulldog that weighs 37.6 lbs.  For only being 14 months, Gordo has had a whirlwind life so far. He was born in Mexico in a very busy kennel. Due to his small size he was not anyone’s first, second or even third pick of the litter.  Gordo was actually 7 months old before he was purchased from the breeder and moved from Mexico to the USA.  The next 7 months were great, Gordo was well cared for, loved and everything appeared to be going great. THEN…. his family got the news that they were moving out of the country and would not be able to take him with them. The family surrendered Gordo to a shelter in their local town.

The shelter staff realized that Bulldogs come with special care and maintenance and decided that Gordo needed to go to a Bulldog rescue to assist in finding his forever home.  No Borders Bulldog Rescue was asked if we could help. You already know the answer.  But, like many of the dogs NBBR takes in, Gordo was 9 hours away and needed help getting to North TX.  The shelter staff worked on their end and we worked on our end to find volunteers to help with the transport.  We were fortunate enough to find THREE volunteers that were willing to make the drive and get Gordo out of the shelter and into NBBR’s care.

The first stop Gordo made was to the clinic to determine what, besides neutering, would be required.  It was determined that Gordo has entropion. Entropion is where the eyelid turns inward and causes the eye lashes to rub the surface of the eyeball, causing a lot of pain.  Added to the list was nare surgery to help him breath better. Gordo was not pleased to hear this news but, when explained it would keep him from being a “mouth breather”, he was cool with the surgery.  Last, but not least, he has some skin allergies that appear to be related to the food he was eating.

Yesterday Gordo received a medicated bath for his skin issues before he went into surgery. Surgery was a piece of cake for him and he came out of recovery in no time. After he was released from the clinic, Gordo went to meet his new foster family. They were very excited to see him and couldn’t believe what a “tiny little guy” he is.  But, don’t be fooled by his small stature, Gordo is a bundle of Bulldog puppy energy. The first thing on his agenda is learning proper inside manners. The first manner will be to chew on only things that he is supposed to, no fingers, arms, etc.  He will also be learning not to tackle everyone he meets. All this should be pretty easy for Mr. G since he appears to be a very smart boy that wants to please the humans he is around.

In the short time since he was surrendered it has been determined that Gordo loves EVERYONE and EVERYTHING. He gets along with other dogs, kids, adults and EVEN cats. So, once Gordo is off of medical hold he will begin the next chapter in his tale, finding his forever family.
